Curious,

Perhaps some are like me and maybe do 5 days here and there or just a long weekend.

I don't take much time off during the year so I've saved my days for the summer and fall.

End of May-early June: Paris
Early July: CO & UT National Parks (Rocky Mountain, Arches, Bryce, Zion)
August: Alaska

Late Nov.-early Dec.: Australia and New Zealand (OK, it's not summer here, but it'll be late spring/early summer there)

Alaska - Flying into Anchorage, doing the Kenai Peninsula by car (Salmon runs, bears, glaciers, etc.) and Denali (Mt. McKinley, wildlife, etc.) by train.

We usually do the extended weekend vacations, but in a year where the travel industry is hurting so bad, we couldn't pass up a trip to Alaska that will cost us about as much as going to California (from Florida).

Hi Curious....I work for an Italian company here in NY so my vacations are in August when most of Italy shuts down for the whole month. It's annoying sometimes because I can't really take off for a lengthy vacation during the rest of the year but on the other hand, who else gets a paid vacation for a whole month?

Driving from SW FL to southern Oregon, then to central WA, on to Seattle area, up to the WA/Canada border, then home via the northern route, stopping @ Yellowstone and heading home with a possible stop in our home state of IL to see relatives and possibly a quick stop in OH where we lived for many years. We are retired, so have the time. As far as affording it, we've saved over the years...and done it on only one salary.

From Portland, OR to the southwest. San Diego, Prescott/Sedona, Canyon de Chelly, Albuquerque, Santa Fe. Hope the drought hasn't destroyed all the beautiful scenery we've heard so much about. I envy those of you who can take fall and spring vacations. As a teacher summer is the only real time I can go.

Glenda, I'd gladly trade my 3 weeks total (that I can take anytime) for your entire summer plus winter and spring breaks. Another whiney teacher. Could you tell your profession to stop!!! No one has it better for time off.

Glenda, I'll gladly trade you my ability to take my two weeks off in the spring/fall for your 10 week summer vacation.

I will give my 2 cents on this one. My husband and three other boating buddies are taking our boats on a two week trip. We will start on Lake Ontaraio and travel to Sodus Bay, NY and go on to Fairhaven, NY, then to Sacketts Harbor for three days. We wanted to stay in the States until after the fourth of July (really it is our Yacht Clubs cruise with 40 boats). However the three of us will extend our cruising to Ottawa Canada through the canal system (which is beautiful) and with time and weather permitting we will go onto Montreal for the final leg and then back again. As I said this is weather permitting. Boaters are at the mercey of Mother Nature. Wind, rain bad seas are a big no no. Time will tell.

This is the longest boat trip we have ever taken. Who knows we may have to make it three weeks.

If this goes well, than next fall we will take the boat from Lake Ontario to Florida.

Oops-before I get chastised, I spelled MERCY wrong. OOPS, I am sure there are other mispelled words too.

Just an aside to xxx and Mary. No one is stopping you from becoming a teacher. If it is such a perfect deal why aren't you teachers?

Husband and I are driving (From TX) to CO, about 10 miles South of Telluride, staying in a cabin on Trout Lake!

I'd love a teachers vacation time. I applied for a teaching position here in TX, got the job, then realized it would have been a $12K cut per year. (Didn't realize they don't consider ANY "experience" except Classroom time)
So there is definitely give and take. There is a teachers shortage in most cities I'm told. So I'm with Glenda, maybe those ladies who wished they had all those vacations can apply for a teaching job. I'll try again maybe once my husband's business is booming!
