Why is "Post a Reply" not showing under all messages ?

I think that is one way the moderator has to cut off discussion. If they want to halt what looks like a flame war, but they don't want to remove the thread entirely, they turn off the "Post a Reply" button.

Is this a new strategy or has it been done all along? I've never noticed this happening before.

It just happened with one post, "How do you measure a location's desirability". Also, the last post was removed. The Post a Reply button is off, but OTOH I don't see any reason to stop it. No real flaming...

I guess I could be wrong, and the thread got crunched...

I've noticed it on another post as well, the one from the person who wants to take her cat with her to Las Vegas. There isn't anything objectionable in any of the posts and the question itself is more or less legit (the cat might disagree).
