Congratulations on your upcoming marriage and honeymoon in So. Cal. We had a great time in Sydney 2 years ago and are definitely planning a return trip in the near future!
Be careful about driving on the "wrong" side of the road on the L.A. area freeways. It can be stressful even if you are from here.

Rose-
Make sure you check http://ellen.warnerbros.com/tickets/ frequently as tickets are reserved months in advance. Not sure that they're offered for october yet, but definitely a site to keep your eye on.

The drive from LA to Las Vegas can be relatively easy or it can be a vacation-ruining nightmare. The route is easy: Interstate 10 East to Interstate 15 North. One major accident on the 15 could muck up everything.
On relatively empty freeways, no accidents: Four hours.
On a Friday night during Rush Hour, add at least two hours to get out of the metro LA area.
Or you do what I'd do: FLY. Southwest has many flights out of LAX, JetBlue has two popular daily flights out of Long Beach. Rent a car once you're in Vegas. Total time: Two hours (one hour at airport, one hour in the air), but the savings in lower blood pressure is considerable.

Southwest flies from Burbank to Las Vegas. And Burbank is a very easy airport to return a rental car. Don't drive to Las Vegas in September, the traffic can be a mess and it'll probably be 120 degrees F in the shade.
