Where do you do Lunch or lite Dinners on BI, Maui, and Kauai
We have decided on our "big" dinner restuarants while on these islands.
Do any of you have favorites for lunch or dinner on the evenings we just want to grab a quick bite but still want the food to be good?
We will be on:
Kauai - North Shore
Big Island - near VNP
Maui - Kaanapali

One of my most memorable inexpensive lunches on Maui was at the Aloha Mixed Plate in Lahaina across from the cannery mall. Cheeseburgers in Paradise was fun although the hostess was rather surly. Several people have recommended Alexander's in Kihei to me for inexpensive seafood if you plan on traveling down to the South side for a day. We'll be in Maui and Kauai in June. Where have you decided to have your big/splurge meals? (I'm currently researching this.)

Zelo's BEach HOUse in Hanalei on Kauaui is a good dinner or lunch place. It's casual with a good atmosphere. YOu could also grab a burger at Bubba's Burgers too . It is simply a walk-up place with outdoor picnic tables.

In Volcano, there is a cafe in back of the small general store (Internet Cafe?). It's pretty good for breakfast or lunch. Don't worry about having trouble finding it, Volcano is a teeny-tiny town.

North shore Kaua`i has quite a few places for quick lunch -- lucky for those of us who live here!:
Kilauea has Pau Hana Pizza (great sandwiches, too), Starvin' Marvins, and I think Lighthouse Bistro is still serving lunch.
Princeville Center has CJs Steakhouse (awesome burgers, as well salads, cold/hot sandwiches), and Paradise Grill (great fish & chips, plus burgers, salads, sandwiches).
Hanalei has Zelo's (menu is more Mexican, lately), Hanalei Gourmet (our favorite place for a homemade burger), and Bubba's (if you don't mind burgers made from frozen patties). Ching Young Village offers Subway (inside Big Save Market), a pizza place, a health food store, Hanalei Mixed Plate (pseudo Hawaiian, but good), and Village Snack Shop (for traditional Hawaiian plate lunch and burgers). You'll also find a real treasure -- Polynesian Cafe. Service is slow, but food is exemplary (and kitchen is immaculate!).

Crazy4Hawaii - In Kauai our big meals will be at The Beach House in So. Kauai and the Princeville in N. Kauai.
Maui - Hula Grill, Pacific 'O on the West - Upperside, and Nick's Fishmarket in Wailea at the Kea Lani Resort OR Spago in the 4 Seasons. We will only travel down to the Southend once so will have to chose between the last 2.

Nancy,
The Beach House and Nick's are definitely on my list too. I'm also including Tidepools on Kauai (as we're staying at the Hyatt) and Sarento's on Maui. We'll have to compare experiences when we get back!

Crazy4Hawaii: We are also staying at the Hyatt for 2 nights the up to the Northshore. But our first night we will probably too exhausted from our flight and the other night we wanted to watch the sun set at the Beach House. We may have drinks and something lite at the Tidepool - we'll have to see when we get there.

Nancy -
The Hanalei Dolphin is a great spot for lunch. You can sit outside and view the Hanalei River. We also like Zelo's - not the view that the Dolphin has but pretty good food and unless it has changed drastically in the past year, it has a mixture of foods - salads, sandwiches and good wraps for lunch. Enjoy. We leave for Kauai a month from today and are anxious esp. since thise Northeast winter has been exceptionally cold.

Nancy, I am curios where you will be eating your "big dinner" while staying in Maui? We are traveling to Maui ourselves in March and have heard Sorrento's, Spago, and others are good. Have you received any other recommendations? Thank you.

Don't limit yourself to No/So Shore retaurants.
A lot on the CocoCoast too.
Coconuts is a personal fave (lobster ravioli and seafood cigars are great appies), Huki Lau at the CocoBeachboy, Kintaros has expended but still had a long line almost every time we drove by,
Lizard Lounge's Drunken Shrimp was pretty darn good, Bull Shed's Garlic and the Peppercorn Tenderloins are good, Fish Bowls has gotten better, Olympic Cafe had a good b'fast and lunch, Wake up Cafe in Hanalei was a nice place for breakfast and always seems to be open for b'fast when they say they will be!
cajunstorm, We missed the nui nachos at Waimea Brew Co. They are soooo goood!
We did have a great lunch at Grinds in Eleeeeeee on the Westside.
336 to go!
