Where can I find great sushi in Palm Springs?

I've lived in Palm Springs for a year and a half. It's a great town and we have some good restaurants.

Unfortunately, I haven't heard anything about where I can find a good sushi place here in the valley. Any recommendations? Thanks.

California. I honestly didn't know there was a PS in Florida, but now that I think about it, I think I've heard of a PS in Arizona too. Thanks for helping me clarify.

No good ones in Palm Springs. Or Palm Desert. Or Rancho Mirage.

I guess the prevailing attitude of the citizens is like Erma Bombeck's: "I would hardly consider myself a connoisseur of BAIT!!!"

Seriously, I can't think of one sushi joint in all my travels to PS, PD or RM. And Zagat lists NONE. Zilch. Zero. I would assume you can buy it in the seafood section at Vons or Pavilions or even Ralphs.

Thank goodness for Thai Smiles-- otherwise, I don't think you'd find any good Asian food around there!!

Wait a minute-- a Google search yielded a bit of success. All is not lost!

There's a teppenyaki joint in Rancho Mirage called Kobe Japanese Steak House (www.koberanchomirage.com)-- and they have a menu of sushi and sashimi.

There is an actual sushi specialist in PS proper-- right on Palm Canyon! Ichiban Steak House and Sushi Bar (www.ichiban.ca/locat_palmsprings.php).

I guess I never have looked for Japanese food while in PS (I'll take Thai any day over Japanese), so these places never registered. Google lists other places, but you never really know how up-to-date the pages are. But you can certainly call around...!

Thanks RJW. I'm glad you posted because you like "Thai Smiles"" which I've driven past a hundred times. You've convinced me to try it soon!

I guess we should just try the two Japanese places you suggest and judge for ourselves.

I'm still hoping that someone has actually tried a sushi place in town, and would heartily recommend it.

Thanks!
