Where and what is Javitz Center in NYC?

Hi all, I have a friend going to a show there in two weeks. She thinks it might be near Times Square. Are you familiar with location? Also she is staying at a Sheraton near there. She has never been to NYC before and I wanted to help her with the area, but first I need to know something about the location. Thanks for you time.

The huge Jacob Javits Convention Center is located on the far west side of Manhattan, Eleventh Avenue at West 36th Street. It's about a mile from Times Square.

Because no subway lines service the Javits, the best way to get there is by cab or the M42 bus which can be picked up on 42nd Street (in Times Square or elsewhere on 42nd).

Hi, I did look it up. Think she is staying at the Holiday Inn not the Sheraton. Any good restaurants in the area that you know about?

Thanks again.

Restaurants near the hotel or Javits Center?
I don't know which Holiday Inn, so I can't help there. And there are no restaurants worth recommending in the immediate area of Javits.

Not sure how the food it, but the BEST cake/cupcakes in NY can be found on 9th Avenue and 38th Street.

There are a few restaurants nearby, but nothing noteworthy.

On a nice day weather wise, you could walk to the Javits Center from Times Square as it is about 6 streets and 4 Avenues. Figure 15 to 30 minutes, depending on their walking speed. Actually, she could just catch the free NY Waterway Bus on 42nd Street to their terminal on West 38th and the FDR highway, as the terminal is directly across the street.

MAke that "directly across the street from the Javits Center." She'll need to cross the West Side Highway (not the FDR drive as I incorrectly stated.) It'll be a 5 minute walk, if that, to the main entrance.
