When is spring break 2006 for San Pedro Island, Texas?

My husband and I would like to go to San Pedro Island, Tx but NOT during any of the college spring breaks. We would like to go late Jan/Feb. or Mar. Looking for suggestions on Marriott hotels, does the beach have alot of vendors selling items ?
I have read the water is not blue is it clean? What else is there to do besides the
beach ? thank you

There is an episode of King of the Hill that deals with San Pedro Island texas during spring break, where Hank takes his Mom and her friends to a miniature figurine show and Spring Break decends on the island.

Oooops, maybe not! Never heard of San Pedro before but it does exist along the coast. From what little I know South Padre Island is where most spring breakers congregate.

www.spionline.com has great info.

If you're trying to avoid college spring break season, DO NOT go in March!

No, there are not many beach vendors. There are a lot of stores on the Blvd. that sell trinkets, etc.

See this web page:

The water is not crystal blue, but it is very nice and clean. There is a water park called Schlitterbahn. Also there's a dolphin-watching cruise. Additionally you can cross the border in either Progreso or Matamoros. I've never been to Progreso, but I'm still confident it's nicer than Matamoros. As you might have heard, there have been many problems with crime lately in Nuevo Laredo, but to the best of my knowledge that hasn't spilled over to Progreso. If anyone has heard differently, please jump in.

Avoid S. Padre in March like the plague!! That's a mistake I will only make once.

P.M.....

Please post your experience with S. Padre Island in March. Sounds like it would be interesting.

Saw the rerun of King Of The Hill where they went to the island on spring break. I think they referred to it as "Port Aransas.
