Dh and our 16yo dd are out of town working at a handbell festival, and I took 9yo ds and the two neighbor boys to see "The Incredibles" this evening. The boys are all asleep (finally) in the living room, and I'm here with a lightly chilled glass of Three Buck Chuck Merlot. Yes, I realize it's not the most gourmet wine in the world, but we finally got a Trader Joe's in New Mexico and I had to try some.
I like it here, but I'd rather be in New Zealand with my dh - heck, it would be OK if the kids came too.

We were the first on the island to buy a case of Beaujolais Nouveau today (only because the seller is my best friend, so we get first dibs). I guess that will be our poison tonight. Not the whole case, of course.
Anyone else had the Beaujolais Nouveau this year?

Hi Statia!
If I can't be sitting on your porch with you, chatting about a million things, I choose where I was... In a hotel near SFO, drinking an Australian red with my parents, listening to the tales of their 2 month trip, virtually around the world. This morning they are headed on to their home in the Sierras.

Hi Statia,
There's a thread about Beaujolais Nouveau on the Europe board:

Enjoy the cool weather.

Oh, Statia, I meant to ask you, where do you plan to build your dream home? On the island or back in the States? The biggest tip I can pass along is to document EVERYTHING. Even if you think it's a no brainer and you trust your builder (don't, by the way), get it in writing. We could have prevented countless headaches, major irreversible mistakes, and saved a lot of money if we'd done that.

I would love a good glass of Chardonay or Pinot, not picky at this moment. I would love to be sitting on a veranda overlooking the ocean in our friends house in Marbella, Spain.
Also, sitting in front of a roaring fire in a cabin nestled in the mts. of Colorado with a special someone.

Grasshopper, you know you have an open invitation to come on down.
Jocelyn, we bought some ocean front property here on the island, overlooking St. Kitts, in January. We have already documented the clearing of it thru photos and journaling, but thanks for the tip on documenting contract work. I don't know if it will hold much water here in the islands with the way things are done differently, but it's definitely worth a shot. There are only a handful of contractors here, and we're already asking around for who is the best for when our time comes.
Mimi, thanks for the tips on the Beaujolais. We only have Bouchard Pere & Fils available here, opened a bottle at noon, and it aint half bad.

>>Indytravel wrote: Is it possible to flock coconuts and give them that snowy feel?<<
People at the flood control authority office here make a huge snowman out of tumbleweeds every year. They spray paint it white and put it out by the freeway. I think the coconuts are a great idea!
Scarlett, I thought of suggesting that we all go, but they're just in a small town in eastern NM. We lived there for a year, and it was a good place to live, but I couldn't think of anything I really wanted to do there (though dh emailed me and said there is a library book sale there this morning).
Dd's going was really spur of the moment, actually - she's been working part-time at dh's workplace. Dh decided he could use her help and called to ask if I could bring her some clothes and toiletries. Unfortunately, I didn't get the message until after they left, so I guess they'll share dh's toiletries. It will be good for dd to realize she can survive without a change of clothes and her makeup case. ;-)

It took my awhile but I finally figured out what most of the people here at fodors are. There was just something about a lot of the posts and the way they were written that was ringing familiarity. You guys (mostly women, that I'm sure of) remind me of a lot of people I know who are nothing but upper middle class wino's and "desperate housewifes". You can't get anybody to pay attention to you, you drink a lot of semi-expensive wine, and you think a vacation (or talking about one) salvages your loneliness. You say you'd rather be somewhere nice but in reality you're getting ready to go and pick up a couple of bottles of semi-expensive wine. At least you won't look like a true wino. An maybe you'll meet someone who will talk to you, cuz your husbands won't.

Greetings Statia, sounds like you have exciting plans underway! My step father lived on Antigua for 8 years...to this day he gets a little misty eyed when recalling his time there.
I'll be pouring meself a Guinness tonight...still dreaming about that ski holiday

Scarlett,
You forgot: absolutely stunning, well read, traveled and educated. Savvy enough to know when some poor pasty-white, 98 pound, small-minded, small-something-elsed Weiner Boy knows he would never have a chance with ANY of us.
(My guess is this is mikemo incognito.)
btw, I've never seen that show because I am far too busy living my incredibly-exciting life!
