Hi All,

Well, I ended up with some fruity Chardonnay -- didn't really care for it, but it did the trick, lol. No, I didn't break the news to my DH yet. Why ruin a Friday night is my thinking.

No gardening tomorrow. Gonna let everything just grow!

I think we are headed into Manhattan tomorrow. We are on a mission (my sons and I) to find the Donut Plant in the East Village to try their rosewater donuts topped with edible roses. Then we're headed to Gus' for some pickles, yum, yum! We'll end the day with gelato from il Laboratorio del Gelato. Not exactly the 4-food groups, but good and fun nonetheless

Gyppielou, so sorry to hear about Mr. Lou's cousin. Keeping all those with difficult situation in my thoughts and prayers.

Statia, I wish someone would leave a little treasure chest of goodies for me

Managed to talk DH into grilling inbetween rain squalls.

My "traveling" to the meet tomorrow is down to Salem. I am volunteering at the meet, but I hope we have some time afterward to head downtown. It is where I grew up and I always love going back there.

R5--Good to see you! You've been scarce on the board. Speak up more

Jacketwatch--My DH has a glass of whiskey with him right now.

Seetheworld--Whats wrong with those 4 food groups???

mms, nothing is wrong with those 4-food groups if you add some chocolate to go with it

Scarlett, if you have any spare time on your hands, you can come and clean out my closets

R5, I've missed your poetry!

Aloha everyone!

Just a little lime in Corona for me... refreshing.

I'm off to ORD to drop teen son and DH to catch a flight to Jackson Hole... final destination... the tetons. Father son getaway. I'll be enjoying a quiet house for a week... then it's my turn... off to Kauai in 19 days. Aaaaahhhhhhh!

A wonderful weekend to ya'll. ><

Scarlett, I don't envy you for taking on the packing process again. Eeek. We've recently been offered a couple of nicer places up on the mountain here (actually "on the volcano") and I don't have a problem living on the volcano, but I DO have a problem with packing to move two miles away after all the time we've spent where we are at now. Not to mention the beach is in walking distance

For those of you who want a "treasure chest," you'll just have to come down and visit and you will get one, as most of my guests do, according to their ages however. mms, in response to your question for DH's daughter, I usually have the typical body/bath products, glittery stuff, hair accessories, and this time a whole lot of costume jewlery (earrings, bracelets, necklaces, anklets, toe rings, cell phone charm, etc.). She's still too young for the "real" stuff. I kind of went a big hog wild on my last business buying trip to NYC just because everything is so inexpensive in comparison to Claires.

Razzledazzle, it sounds like you have a wealth of wine tasting opportunities at your fingertips. I really have to make it to that part of the country one of these days.

seetheworld, I agree....it can wait another day.

My thoughts go out to all those having to endure Arlene over the weekend. I have had my fair share of TS's and hurricanes here, so I know what the prep and endurance is like.

While we are not having to prep for this storm, we did buy 3 bottles of wine to tide us over in case it rains

I COULD move to Statia's island-
Is your spot in need of a psychotherapist and a semi-retired
architect ?

I'm just about to make a mojito (now all I need is some sugar cane for a swizzle stick). I just finished watching the movie Little Black Book on my laptop (too much of a chick flick for DH and my sons to watch with me). It was kind of cute, and it made me want to listen to Carly Simon (great soundtrack and funny ending).

This week it's all about tying up loose ends at work and running a million errands. We're off to New England and Canada next week. Hopefully it will be an escape from the heat. It's already been a long summer, and summer hasn't even started yet.

Cheers everyone!

Hi Statia. Alanis Morisette lyric? Had a "black fly in your chardonnay" perhaps?

Glad to see most of the Caribbean missed Arlene. I hope Trish is still having fun in Key West. I never had a problem finding something to do in Key West even in bad weather. I'm sure Trish is just as resourceful!

Speaking of Trish. It's my usual VO Manhattan made with the Noilly-Prat vermouth she picked up for me at the NYC GTG. It really is much smoother then the Martini & Rossi.

My first "trip" was into the yard this evening. Mowing, raking up oak bark. (Mini-rant about how I HATE oak trees! How can you possibly rake a wheelbarrow full of oak bark in June!?!?) Sprayed poison ivy with round-up. Petted the neighbors' dog. Hosed out the drain in front of the garage. Blew oak crap off the blacktop. Have I mentioned how I hate oak trees?

I leave tomorrow for St Louis for 1 night. I'm going to see an old college friend and have dinner at Chez Leon in the Central West End. It's one of my favorite restaurants right now. Exquisite French food and an owner who speaks French. He's even gracious enough to attempt to speak with me and my pathetic French attempts!

We might hit the Collinsville horseradish festival Saturday afternoon. If it's as hot as it's supposed to be I doubt if I make it. I don't want to miss the bloody mary contest but I can only take so much heat.

Indy, my bud. No one else said it, but you nailed it. At least it had nothing to do with the lottery, a plane ride, or ten thousand spoons.

Have a blast with your college friend. Those sort of relationships are really special.

I'm with you Statia. I'd much rather have a fly in my wine then the airplane option.

My college friends are the ones I finally found after a miserable 4 years in a rural Indiana high school where I graduated with 64. Did I mention that chewing tobacco was an officially sanctioned school sport? OK, not really. But I didn't chew and knew girls who did. Ewww.

Hey Statia! Happy Weekend Everyone

Razzledazzle--you have great taste in wine...Martin Ray one of my favs.

Tonight I am drinking Makers Mark Mint Juleps, which I made and stored in the freezer a few days ago...They are really good. I make a whole bottle at a time and store it in the freezer, so when you pour it over ice in a sugar rimmed glass it is pure heaven.

No travel plans this weekend, when you live on Long Island, the traffic is so terrible, it can takeup to 4 hours to get to the north fork vineyards these days. There is construction everywhere and so much more volume than there used to be. So we will be relaxing at home and working in
the garden, which I made waaaaay to large this year. I planted 36 tomato plants, besides all the other veggies herbs and flowers. So if anyone wants tomatoes, drop by around august!

Hey, BuffaloGirl,
Top it off with a splash of Amaretto to smooth it off a bit and you'll have my usual Friday night poison!

Happy Friday to all.

Good evening all,

Welcome, Buffalo Girl and inthechips2!

Faina, East of Eden is my all-time very very favorite book. The movie stinks, though. Well, that's not really fair to say, cuz there's just too much stuff to cram into a short movie.

Good luck, stw, and I'm sorry to hear gyppielou's news.

We had our poison out tonight! I had an Eschelon Pinot Noir to go with chipotle glazed salmon with black beans and pineapple salsa--yum.

Nothing too exciting happening around here this weekend. Tomorrow night is the street party downtown where we get to sample food from lots of local restaurants and dance the night away. We'll also be fine-tuning details for our Paris trip. We leave a week from tomorrow! So, if I'm absent for next week's thread, it's because I have Paris on my mind.

Cheers to all~
