What's your favorite cheap Vegas hotel?
Planning a fun weekend with my girlfriends but we don't want to spend $250 a night. Tropicana and Flamingo look alright (can you tell we love a good pool?) Just wanted to know which less expensive hotels you guys liked and why..... thanks!

Bally's due to the huge hotel rooms and fantastic location. But their pool sucks. So I'd go for the Flamingo - though I haven't stayed there I've visited the pool and it's pretty nice. Lots of families, though the kids mainly seemed to hang around the water slide.

We just returned from five days at the Hotel San Remo. It is very nice. The rooms are good sized -- bigger than we had at the New York New York -- and clean. The pool is nice. It is outdoors, but heated year round, and protected well from wind. It does have a deep end, too. The coffee shop serves $5.95 prime rib dinners 24 hours a day and also steak and eggs for the same price. We had a wonderful dinner at the Papparizi Grill. Their Japanese restaurant is well rated. The hotel is located next to the Tropicana on Tropicana Avenue. It is about a block from the corner. I walked up to Bellagio one day and it was not a bad walk. There is a tram from the corner down to Mandalay Bay and Luxor. When the monorail starts running, their location will be even better because the station at the MGM Grand is just across the street from them and there is a crosswalk closeby. The casino is small but adequate and was not crowded. I enjoyed their lounge act -- Tim Ballard. A good cheap hotel in a good location. It is definitely a step up from either Circus Circus or the Westward Ho. I also liked the fact that it was smaller and it was not a hike just to get to the front door. I'm not sure how old you are, but this hotel seems to have targeted baby boomers, they play 50s music in the casino.

Bally's - large rooms often offer great rates and it is in the very heart of the strip. Pool is just ok hoewever.
Flamingo - super pool, in the heart of the strip, craps tables sometimes rock, but some rooms are showing age.
MGM - super pool, rooms are generally larger than average, table games sometimes rock and good food court area.
Hilton - often offer great rates, sportbook is huge, pool average plus, location has been a negative, but now that the new tram is open this may improve access to other areas.
If your priority centers on a great pool, my recommendation for a "cheap" Vegas hotel is the Flamingo.
Flamingo - super pool, in the heart of the strip, craps tables sometimes rock, but some rooms are showing age.
MGM - super pool, rooms are generally larger than average, table games sometimes rock and good food court area.

Why would 50's music attract baby boomers?
The very oldest baby boomers would have been 4 years old in 1950 and 13 in 1959.
The average baby boomer was born in 1955 and probably didn't listen to much music by the age of 5.

OK So I'm older than a baby boomer. The San Remo Hotel plays rock and roll music from about 1956 through the 1960s.
I don't know about you, but my prime record buying days were from about 6th through 9th grades.

Go with Flamingo. Great pool even great center strip location. You can walk anyplace. They are slowing remodeling all rooms. You can book a standard (deluxe) but ask for Premium when you check in - you may get it at no extra cost or $20 more - it all depends on the clerk and availability (and your personal charm). We just stayed at the Aladdin and were upgraded to a Bellegio fountains view at no charge even after I told the clerk it did not matter as we had been to Vegas about 60 times over the years! I think Flamingo has the nicest pool tho since that is your prime concern.

The Orelans would be my pick for an inexpensive hotel. Just came back from there and absolutely loved it. A little off the strip on the west side in a good area. It is very new, clean, and every room is a mini suite. Huge rooms. Bathrooms have marble counter tops and a phone next to the toilet. Too bad pool is closed in the winter, but they are remodeling to make the pool area bigger for the summer. If you want to spend under $65 a night this is the place for you.
