A group of ladies/moms from SC travel to NYC every fall. We are tourists and sometimes do touristy things. However, we've been enough times to make sure we do different things - visit different places - eat in Brooklyn - attend local churches. Personally, I prefer some of the less "tourist" places, i.e. Tavern on the Green. Yucky brunch IMHO. Bottom line - tourists bring income to an area. Lots of income. I may sound like a tourist, but I LOVE NEW YORK.

I've only been to nyc twice, and of course I've been to midtown ... I had to see what this 'time square thing' was all about (and after I saw it don't really have a desire to see it again , but my best experiences there have been in East Village (where I stayed the first time I was there), Downtown, Brooklyn (where I stayed the second time I was there), and various other parts of the city. Don't worry, not all tourists go just to midtown, it just probably feels that way.
