Thank you all SO much for the very kind comments--and the congratulations. The wedding rings arrived today (beautiful curly koa wood--ordered from Hawaii, of course!) so I guess this means we're really doing it!

My next task will be to put together a list of favorite restaurants for friends and relatives who will be attending. Feel free to share your suggestions. We'll be on the North Shore, so that will be the main focus, but I'll include Roy's, the Shrimp Station, and of course ... Hamura's Saimin .

For some more adventurous in your party, we found this yesterday before we caught our flight home: http://islandadventureskauai.com/rappelling/

Also ATV tours, visit to Salt Pond, Glass Beach and if they do sail out of Port Allen, some good home made brew at Kauai Island Brew Co:
http://www.kauaiislandbrewing.com/
The nui nachos with a side order of their Hot Lava Sauce is onoliscious.

they used to be at The Waimea Plantation Cottages until they moved here a few years ago. Kalapaki Joe's is now in their old spot at cottages. Cool.

aloha from Kilauea…you have it amazingly ready to go!Love you enthusiasm and love of our isle…
As with my guests, i try to recommend getting out the door early! You should see Ke'e parking lot lately…took a wedding group into hanakapi'ai at 7am last week, we were one of the first to savor the trail. On the way back out at 1pm, a steady stream of hundreds were hiking in, not a parking place to be had all the way to Limahuli garden.

Congrats Songdoc..so happy for you!

Coincidentally, I will be there in early August Can I sign up for the first tour? hehe! We always like to stop at the plantation cottages on the way back from Waimea and walk the grounds (great trees). You have thought of just about everything!

One of my best decisions was getting married..and having a small intimate wedding on Anini beach in Kauai. I hope the same holds true for both of you!

For your guests...Hanapepe Art Walk on Friday nights is always a nice night out too!

Thank you all SO MUCH for the very kind comments and the GREAT ideas. I usually head to Ke'e late in the day to avoid the crowds and get a parking space. Usually by 4 PM the lot is clearing out. As a bonus, I've seen some gorgeous sunsets there. The other thing I've done is park at Tunnels and walk along the beach--but only if I'm not bringing a chair.

gmac -- I don't know how early you'll be there in August, but if you're a music lover, the Kauai Music Festival will have concerts August 1st and 2nd. I don't know who the headliners will be this year, but in the past I've seen some INCREDIBLE performances, including Jake (the ukelele virtuoso), Raiatea Helm, and so many more. It'll be at the Marriott Courtyard near Kapa'a.

Again, thanks so much! I'm getting SOOOOO excited. I'll head to paradise July 27th for the music festival--and then will move up to Princeville. The first wedding guests arrive arrive August 7th and it'll be SO special to share my favorite place in the world with my favorite people in the world!!! I'm feeling VERY fortunate!!!

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I wanted to add some additional dining suggestions, food being one of my favorite things about vacations!

For the Kapaa area -- Art Café Hemingway. We ate breakfast there twice and it was wonderful. Freshly prepared, friendly staff, beautiful dining area.

For the Kilauea (lighthouse) area -- Kilauea Bakery. Again, we visited there a couple of times and enjoyed their pastries and pizza.

Hanalei -- Pink's Ice Cream. It's a tiny place but the ice cream is great. I loved their chocolate macadamia nut and my boyfriend liked their cinnamon crunch. I think we went back three times, even though we were staying down in Kapaa!

Anahola -- farmer's market on weekends. They had a barbeque stand that served Huli Huli Chicken and Kalua Pig when we visited. Best chicken I've ever had, huge portions, great price.

Have a wonderful time!

Songdoc: You have been too quiet on this board...! The countdown clock is ticking...can you believe it's July 1! Do you have everything done for the wedding? When do you move to the North Shore?

I need some advice: as many trips to Kauai that DH & I have made we have never done a Na Pali coast boat tour. This trip we will be celebrating my brother's 30th bday so I want to do the boat tour to celebrate.
As you know, we will be in Princeville and I know the best advice is to take a tour that leaves from the north shore. My question is: would it be so bad to leave from the west shore? Here's why: the boat tour we choose must be able to access the sea caves. My brother wants to see that the most. I don't want to be on the raft like boat. The west shore tour I found has a check in between 8-8:30am. I am always up by 6am the week of our trip. When we finish in the afternoon we were thinking of having a snack/drink at the Beach House or Brennecke's Beach Broiler, so we don't mind being south/west, before playing mini golf and having a bday dinner at the Hanalei Dolphin. Here is the tour: http://makanacharters.com/ I think they used to be under the name Liko Kauai Cruises. The Liko name is in the blue book. The new name Makana has the same address and same crew so I think they just had a name change.

One more thing...how do you get to that lookout for sunset at the St Regis? You said in a trip report that many photographers are posted there waiting for sunset.

Thanks Songdoc!

Boat tour update: after researching this afternoon, I decided that, although I liked their boats, the over an hour drive is too far to be there at 8-8:30am. I did speak with them and even though they leave from the west, they do go to Ke'e beach.

Although, I did say I did not want to take a raft like boat I found that the rigid inflatable hull with Holo Holo best suits what we want for the trip. This raft has seating not just sit on the sides which I wouldn't do. I figured all the boats will be bobbing around in the water. If I'm going to feel sick, hopefully I won't, then no boat will stop that! This one leaves from Hanalei Bay; goes in sea caves; looks fun!

I've been busy, busy, busy ... asking my questions on the Australia and New Zealand forums. I'll be teaching master classes in five or six cities down under over a 6 - 7 week period, October thru early December. We'll end with a 10-day holiday in Tasmania. Planning for that trip is a full-time job!

I'll look forward to hearing about the Holo Holo rigid inflatable. I bet it'll be awesome. When will you be doing it?

The lookout near the St. Regis is next to Pali ke Kua condos, and it's impossible to miss. It's right on the only street that leads to the St. Regis. The hard part is parking. There are only a handful of spaces. I usually park on a side street a mile or more away and walk. But the walk is a nice part of the experience for me. The other option is VERY expensive parking at the St. Regis.

I'll leave for the Kauai Music Festival July 27th. I'll stay at the Marriott Courtyard Coconut Beach where the festival will be held (near Kapa'a) until heading up to the North Shore August 1st. The first wedding guest arrives Aug. 5th. I can hardly wait!!!

Thank you all so much for the good wishes!!!
