What's happening in Denver in May?
I'm going to visit my daughter in Denver and I've been trying to get a hotel room near her apartment. So far I have found six hotels in her area (Cherry Creek) with no availability May 10 and 11. Is something unusual happening or is it always like this?

It's a popular area and not unusual for suburbanites to come into town for the weekend. Also, try the JWMarriott, Cherry Creek.
Oh, and Joshua Bell is in town on the 9th- do you think the world is planning a sleep-over for the weekend?

Maybe it's commencement at DU. It's weird that weekdays would be so full. Maybe you could try further south in the Denver Tech area - it would be a bit of a drive, but there's likely to be something available.

The drive from the Tech area might be 20 minutes. Many nice hotels. Or you could try Priceline for downtown (15 minutes) 4*. Try PL for Tech too, although the one time I was pricing out there it was cheap on the week-end--not so during the week.

Thanks for all the replies. Marriott has nothing, as does Courtyard. Nothing at Holiday Inn, nothing at Staybridge Suites, nothing at Hampton Inn and Suites.
Crossland Economy Studios has rooms, but the one report on Tripadvisor is horrendous. Anyone know anything better about this place?
I do want to stay closer to my daughter than the Denver Tech Center if possible, as I won't have my car.
It would be nice to think this was all caused by a big classical concert, but I'm thinking it's more likely the graduation thing.

Or what about staying closer to downtown and using the bus to get back and forth? Routes 1, 2 and 83L go from downtown to Cherry Creek. You can check www.rtd-denver.com to see the route maps and schedules.

Thanks again. I might stay with my daughter, it's just that she and her roommate recently acquired a cat, and I'm allergic (last time I spent the night in a house with cats I had the first and last asthma attack of my life).
I want to stay close to her apartment because we'll be picking each other up and switching her car between us and dropping her off at school and I don't want to add unnecessary time. I will be going to the hotel after dinner or later, and I don't want to mess with buses and trains.
Downtown hotels also seem to be filled, although I'm not really interested in that option.
Can't change the dates. I've got the plane tickets, she's taken the weekend off from work so we can take a road trip to Santa Fe, and I picked the time because it works for me.
If I'm brave, I'll try the Crossland Economy Suites. Or, if I'm brave, I'll stay at her apartment with my antihistamines and inhaler.

Just got off the phone with the front desk of a hotel that told me there is an enormous conference in downtown Denver May 10 and all the downtown rooms have been taken and now all the ones farther out are being taken.
I did manage to get one night there, May 11, and we'll see if anybody cancels for May 10.
So I guess it isn't Joshua Bell.

I just did a quick look at Expedia, for May 10 and 11, Cherry Creek area:
Hampton Inn and Suites, Cherry Creek has a standard room for an average of $144/night
and
La Quinta Inn Denver Cherry Creek has two beds, free parking and complimentary continental breakfast, for $89/night.
Not sure about either of them, but they're big brand chains and probably would be fine since everything else is full.
Good luck

Maureen, thank you for checking Expedia for me. I just looked there and found the Hampton Inn as you did, but Expedia required prepayment of the entire amount. I then checked the Hampton Inn website (which I had checked earlier and saw no availability) and found a room, no prepayment necessary, and viola, I have a reservation.
(The viola comment was thrown in as a reference to Joshua Bell, in whose honor these hotels are so crowded, or so I like to think, although I know he plays the violin.)
Now I can get on with our plans for Santa Fe.
