What would you do with one day in Key West?

If you had but one day to go to Key West, what would be the one thing you would do?

Take a stroll down Duval Street, then one of the sunset cruises.

My husband and myself had only 5 hours there. We rented a Moped. We visited the Hemmingway house. Stopped on Duval Street, had lunch, and a few drinks.

Eat at Blue Heaven and have key lime pie on a stick at Kermit's Key Lime Shop.

Take the Conch tour train. And catch the sunset celebration at Mallory Square.

We're planning a return trip to the Keys soon but can't find a decent price on the flight!

Are you flying, or maybe stopping off from a cruise?

Definitely plan on a stroll down Duvall St. but beware of a few little oddities: homeless begging for money, wild chickens and lots of wandering cats. Consider it part of the funky charm of the island.

I would make it a long day and start like this: 8am breakfast at Pedros (I think that was the name-local favorite awesome breakfast)... 9:00 fly fishing charter boat.........1:00 scuba/snorkeling trip/party boat (one of those all inclusive things)....5:00 drinks and a huge dinner at one of the islands many eateries......make the most of your day there!!!

Dennis - I think you may be thinking of Pepe's, which has a wonderful, cholesterol-laden breakfast.

If you don't want to spend the day with water sports, I'd begin with a Conch Train Tour, which will give you a good overview of Key West and help direct you to other things you might want to do during the day. You might consider visiting either the Hemingway House and/or Truman's Little White House if you're a history buff. You definitely don't want to miss the sunset celebration!

What is Key West without a stop at Sloppy Joes?

I would have to add a stop at Schooner's Wharf, sometime during the day to see Micheal McCloud and people watch..

I agree with Michael, the Schooner Warf Bar is the best! Also, rent a scooter to see the sights. It is the easiest, quickest way to get around and it will be easier to find a parking space. Stop on Duval street, Hemmingway House, the southernmost point in the US marker and the beach.
