What to see from LV to Yosemite?

We'll have 2 days to get from Las Vegas to Yosemite. We'll be doing the drive in late April so unfortunately the Tioga pass will probably not be open. So which route is the most interesting to take? We're first time visitors from England and need some advice on where to stop on the way?The most obvious route is via Sequioa and Kings Canyon I assume. Is it possible to make that journey in 2 days? Then we'll stay a couple of days in Yosemite before heading on to SF.We would love to hear from anyone who's done this route before us.

The trip you mention is doable in two days. If you can drive through Death Valley in the morning, it is worth a look as well. I don't know of Tioga will be open by late April or not.
More experienced folks will have to answer that one.

The above web site has a list of the historical dates for opening and closing of the Tioga Road. Another site I saw said there were currently 86 inches of snow at Tuolome Meadows. Late April is historically early for opening the roadk, but not impossible.

I can pretty well guarantee that the Tioga Pass will NOT be open in April.

Your best route is probably:

Las Vegas - Barstow - Bakersfield - Fresno - Yosemite.

That is definitely doable in 2 days. In fact it could be done in one day. The downside is that the drive is pretty boring with a lot of very uninteresting ( to put it mildly ) country.

The above post is correct--Barstow, Bakersfield, Fresno etc. I would just do it as quickly as possible and get to Yosemite. Only possible suggestion is for a Basque restaurant in Bakersfield called the "Sheeptenders" or something similar with reference to sheep. If you've never had Basque cooking, it might be worth a visit. The center of California is flat, hot and pretty boring but Yosemite will reward you once you get there. April should be wonderful with some snow left and the beginnings of full waterfalls. It's a very special place. Bring extra film!

Since you'll have two days to make this trip, I'd recommend at least a drive through of Sequoia NP. These are the largest living entities in the world, and they are spectacular. SKC is worth two days or more on its own, but I'd definitely recommend a couple hours to drive the main road.

As being someone who has lived in Fresno for 30 years (I now live in San Francisco), I have done the trip to Las Vegas many times. It takes 6.5-7hrs to get from one locale to the other. The drive is boring - desert and then the central valley. It is another 2 hours from Fresno to Yosemite.

If you take Hwy 41 to get to the southern entrance of Yosemite, you will pass through Oakhurst (about 45 minutes from the Yosemite entrance) which is quite pretty. There are several hiking trails in the area and one goes to the largest redwood tree in the world. You'll have to ask as I don't remember the exact spot for the trailhead.

Yosemite is gorgeous - take lots of film.

It will be about 4 hours drive from Yosemite to San Francisco.
