yes, we stopped at 5 Guys last week one evening after a movie.
Well, the hamburgers were OK, but I didn't think they had a great taste -- like the ones at Cheeburger, Cheeburger -- but then they're a lot cheaper that the CC ones too. To me, just an OK burger, and I didn't particularly care for the bun.
But the fries -- they put your food in a brown bag even if you're eating in. We ordered one large fries to split. They take a huge styrofoam cup like you'd see somewhere being used for a GIANT malt and fill it with fries. Then they put that down in the bag with the burgers and pour at least that many more fries over the whole thing. We seemed to have this bottomless bag of fries. And they are WONDERFUL -- skins on, made from fresh potatoes right there. Really -- the best fries I've had in ages.
Lee was really disappointed they don't do malts though.
I saw all the memorabilia from DC on the walls. Is this the first 5 Guys outside the DC area, or are they all over?

Ann41, a 5 Guys update. Today after Lee's dentist appt. we were headed across Pine Ridge at 1:15 -- past my lunch time, so we headed into 5 Guys. I was surprised it was nearly empty (5 other people total -- not counting the 8 people working). Our number was 24 -- did that really mean there were only 24 orders for lunch by that time of day? Since when we left an hour later, they had just reached 29 and there were now just 3 other people there, I suppose so.
I wonder if 5 Guys is not going to be the hit here that it is in DC? It sure wasn't busy. At night when it was quiet I just assumed they must be busy at lunch, but not today. With their rent and 8 people working, they can't be making any money with that little business.
Meanwhile, it occurred to me what I didn't like about the hamburger. The regular (bigger one) is actually two thin patties -- somewhat overcooked. I guess I'd much prefer mine to be in one thick juicy patty than two thin drier ones. I asked today if they can do it medium rare, but not surprisingly they said they are all medium or they can do them well done. I can't imagine anyone wanting one more well done than our medium ones. Well today I made the mistake of ordering us each a "Little Burger". The problem was that the bun was just as big (I guess I was somehow assuming the bun would be smaller), but it had only one patty. So it ended up being all about the bun, which as I said before is not a terribly good bun. I also LOVE a big slice of raw onion on my burger -- here they only have chopped onions -- sorry, not the same thing!
While we were there, several people took their burgers back as they had left something off -- I was one of those. No mushrooms which I ordered and were on the ticket. And one couple actually took their fries back saying they were overcooked. They are very dark brown and quite crispy. I love them that way, but apparently some people don't. In any case, once again the fries were the best thing. This time we just ordered one regular order and it was still more fries than the two of us should be eating -- with a huge pile in the bottom of the bag in addition to the cup full.
If I want a burger, I think it's back to Cheeburger, Cheeburger for me, although I can see a stop just for fries in my future.
