Are there any interesting places to visit just outside Las Vegas? We are there for 8 days and don't really want to spend them all in Casinos. Also can anyone recommend any good shows. P.S. We have been to Grand Canyon many years ago.

Also, a guidebook or the destinations section at the top of this page can help.

This board is a great source of info, but asking people here to list every good show or area outside of LV is essentially asking them to write a guidebook.

If you have specific interests, or specific questions, this is a great place to get more info on them though.

Valley of Fire State Park is a wonderful day trip from Las Vegas? It's about an hour or so from the Strip. We got some gorgeous pictures from there. Bring lots of water and some snacks.

Mt. Charleston; Red Rock Canyon; Valley of Fire; Lake Mead Recreation Area; Floyd Lamb State Park.

Zion National Park is 2.5 hour drive and well worth the trip depending on what time of year you're there.

Sorry, flup. I was trying, with dry humor (which doesn't come across so well in black and white) to simply say that there's so much good stuff to do in and around Vegas, and that it's already well summarized in other places, that those places are a better place to start for the broad overview you're looking for. You'll never read about it all here, but this is an awesome resource for more details and good tips!

There are outlet malls near by. Henderson has factory tours -- Ethel M Candy and Marshmallows.

What are your interests?
You could fill 2 weeks with non-gambling activities in and around Vegas.
I like going to Red Rocks and have heard good things about Mt. Charleston.
There are many more natural wonders if you are willing to drive a bit further (Bryce, Zion, Death Valley ...)
There's a vineyard in Pahrump.

Shows are really a matter of taste. I loved seeing Zumanity from a loveseat in the front row. You might be offended by it (some people have been, but then I don't know why they would go see it in the first place).
I got a kick out of Showgirls of Magic.
I typically see what headliners are in town when I'm there. I saw George Carlin and Robin Williams do great shows at MGM.
I've seen a few concerts, too.

As jlm_mi basically said, unless you give us a more specific area of interest you should look at previous threads on the subject (and there are many).

For something very close to Vegas (maybe a 10 minute drive - 15 max - from the strip), visit the Ethel M Chocolate Factory & Cactus Garden. Free chocolate samples, plus lots of pretty plants to look at . There's a short (self-guided and FREE) tour you can walk through to see how chocolate is made, and a gift shop where lots of wonderful things will tempt you. If you are so inclined, you could take a sandwich lunch over there & eat at the garden (assuming it's not August & a gazillion degrees outside).
