Kaanapali, Napili, and Kapalua are my favorites as far as where to stay.

We didn't like Wailea very much. We thought it was too remote. We mostly like to snorkel & we like going to Lahaina for dinner. Kaanapali is about a 15min beautiful drive from Lahaina. Have a wonderful vacation!

I stayed in Kaanapali back in 2000. It was beautiful, and, as another post mentioned, going into Lahaina for dinner/shopping is nice after a day at the beach. I'm sure wherever you go in Maui you'll have a great time!

Kihei is nice to visit for the beaches, but too crowded to stay at, IMO. Anyplace North of Lahina will do fine, better for whale watching too, depending on when you're going.

My family stayed in a beautiful condo just north of Kaanapali in Kahana. Excellent snorkelling close by, and only a short 20 minute drive to Lahaina. We drove down to Wailea one day and didn't find very easy beach access. Maybe we missed it?

Hana is the bomb! And the drive out there is one of the best trips I've ever taken...don't miss it!

We were just in maui on our honeymoon and found where we stayed to be the best – Kaanapali beach. There are many stores/restaurants/other hotels walking distance and Kaanapali is only about a 10 minute drive to Lahaina. We went to Wailea one day for dinner but it was a hike (45-55 min) and all of the hotels seemed a little hoity-toity for us. Kapalua was also very pretty and only about 15 minutes to the town.

We were thankful towards the end of our vacation to be able to walk to dinner and not have to drive everynight.

Hope I helped.

Stayed in Lahaina. Thought is was great. If you want a great beach though, I would suggest Kaanapali. I heard the area around Kihei and Wailea stays mostly cloudy during the day.

Just had to respond to Melissa's message.Wailea and Kihei are the the least cloudy and wet. Check any guide book, they are dry, dry, dry.

It must have just been the time of year the people that I know went. When looking into where to stay for our honeymoon, everyone (ok, not exactly everyone) but the 3 other couples that had been there said it was cloudy there the whole time.
