My fantasy trip is to temporarily relocate and live oversees as an expatriate for at least 6 months, preferably long enough to experience a change of seasons. I would actually get to make local friends, shop for essentials where they do, etc... Every trip I have taken so far is between 1-3 weeks, usually on a fly/drive itinerary. No car would be awesome.

Fantasy location-either Provence or Tuscany.

First, we're clearly all assuming a world not on war footing, which would make most trips more ideal than now.

Second, while getting there is PART of the fun, it is nowhere near "half the fun" compared to previous decades. Therefore, IF I could beam up from the US and then down to my destination on the other side of the globe, I would love to go to 1. the northeast coast of Australia to one of those island-villa resorts, also to Alice Springs; 2. One of those island-villa palace-hotels on a lake in northern India; 3. any of several island palace/resorts near Greece and Turkey (yes, there's a theme here).

Since this is a US board, I will add that I would love to take one or another of the Orient Express luxury train trips, preferably in the Rockies.

Not a one yet that has not sounded amazing! Don't just pass off dreams as unrealistic. I hope that some (if not all) of you are able to one day depart for the Ultimate Trip. I believe enjoying life can cure any ailment, so go out and see the world! Again, I thank everyone for their input.

If there is room on the plane, I'll be joining Quinty in Bora Bora. Iceland is on my list right now so I'll let you know about that one.

I want to buy an around the world ticket with enough money to sleep and eat well everywhere I stop. And I want there to be lots of interesting people to talk to everywhere I go to who can tell me about the hidden treasures in their particular locale, and maybe have me over for a nice visit
