in my humble opinion; now, i've got a question...can someone pls explain ttt or topping or to the top? i understand posting a reply moves a thread to the top of the list, but why post a reply that adds nothing of value?

Another favored variation:

IMNSHO: In my not-so-humble opinion

ttt brings messages to the top for the sake of (1) the original poster, who hasn't gotten a reply yet to a worthy question and (2) other posters who have asked related questions that are answered by the newly-topped old thread.

The only way to bring a message to the top (ttt) is to reply to it. OFten the person has nothing to add, just wants the posting to the top, for various reasons.

Ron, topping a post brings it to the top and as you say adds nothing of value. But lots of regular posters don't scroll down the list of topics to the bottom and would therefore miss a topic that had droppped toward the bottom. If a question has not been answered someone may top it to make it first on the list so they'll have a better chance of receiving a response.

IMHO, people at time will go through the whole list and top tons of things and try to put the troll questions to the bottom.

It's not just the troll questions they want to sink, it's also any negative criticism of something they have a financial interest in.

Fodors Rules:
There are very few and those are not followed. Everyone is supposed to keep this to travel and be courteous.Sometimes there is a thread that is silly and lighthearted and you will usually notice that it will go for a couple of days or more, but then there are some really vicious ones.Guess it just depends on who/what is out there at the computer at any given time. But when you feel like never reading these boards again, there will be a really good thread and people are funny, helpful, informative, and it makes you keep trying to stick with it
Of course this is all JMHO :0)

I just read their rules and found no restrictions on any of that.

The only rules I've seen enforced are no cut-n-pasting copyright material and no super-extreme flames. You can find f-words all thru the archives, and lots of 100% pure spam. You can use all the acronyms you want, immfho.
