What is going on in Atlanta Oct 14-15?

I'm trying to get a hotel room in downtown Atlanta for that weekend (or maybe just that Sunday night) and virtually everything is booked. Is there a big event going on?

Starrsville -- You must have a lot of friends, and they're interfering with my weekend plans!!

I would have thought that downtown hotels have high vacancy on weekends, but there's almost no vacancy on this particular weekend. I've checked ATL visitor bureau and events calendars, and didn't see anything significant.

Well, yeah!

The last time I saw things fill up like that was for a medical conference. The closest place I could find for someone flying in was Conyers - no kidding.

The Westin has vacancies, and there are plenty of rooms in Buckhead that weekend.

In addition to the Falcons/Giants game, the Georgia Fair is that weekend and John Mayer is in concert.

There's the cheerleading competition with 2,000 in attendance and the Society for Neuroscience with 25K attendees.

Well, the Georgia Fair is several hours away - so I guess it's all the cheerleaders' fans packing the hotels

I knew about the Falcons/Giants game, as that is the purpose of our trip -- didn't think it would consume many rooms, however, as most fans are presumably locals.

The neuroscience conference is probably the culprit. I see now that starts on Saturday the 14th, and if it really is 25k people, that would explain the lack of available hotel rooms. I'm sure they will make for fun company, though!

Would it be easy to stay in Buckhead and go to the G Dome for the football game on Sunday (with or without rental car)?

Buckhead would be a better place to stay anyway. Just take MARTA down - whether or not you have a rental car. It will be a lot easier.
