What is a long drive or walk to a Bostonian?

Last year September we were in Boston for 3 days and as belgian tourists, we used our system for US city visits i.e.the first day we took the trolley(you can get on and off all day long and they have great driver/guides). The other days we did everything on foot except to Cambridge(Harvard univ.) we took the T.The best way to see a city is still on foot.Paul
