So if you wanted to have dinner at this Middendorf's in Manchac and are coming from New Orleans with a car only that day, what would you see in that area? Keep in mind that I'm looking for some sort of authentic cajun experience and would like to have lunch some place that fits this description as well. Thanks for all y'alls help!!

In my planning of this day to Cajun Country, I neglected to determine the time it would take to get there. I mapquested last night and it is well over 2 hours from NO to Lafayette - kind of a long drive to and from for one day. I don't suppose there is anything closer? Any other day trips you would recommend? We've been to Oak Alley and done swamp tours before. Even Avery Island is over 2 hours. Oy vey! Are there other plantations closer to NO that have good tours/interesting history. Anyone been to Laura since the fire?

Hi snowrooster.
Houmas House has been newly remodeled and is open for tours ($20 I think) Have you been there? I don't think there's much to see enroute to Middendorf's except the lake, which does have a beauty of it's own.
There is another restaurant closer to Houmas House called Hymel's--fantastic food but doesn't have the atmosphere of Middendorf's. There is also another restaurant near Houmas called (I think) "The Cabin". Hope this helps

Starrsville, there's only one toll bridge, but that's the Causeway across Lake Pontchartrain which connects Metairie and Mandeville. The toll is collected ONLY going north to south, and it's just a buck at that. You wouldn't need to cross the Causeway to take any of the day trips described in the previous posts. But if you did have to cross it, it a pleasant trip when the weather's nice.

BayouGal,
The toll across the Causeway is $3.00 if you don't have a toll tag. It used to be $1 each way back in the day then they raised it to $1.50 each way & now since they only collect going from the Northshore to Metairie it's $3.00.
You're right though, Snow shouldn't have to cross it.
