What area to stay in San Francisco for Bay to Breakers race.

4 couples are planning to rent a condo/house on VRBO for the Bay to Breakers race weekend. We are not quite sure what area to look in that would give us easy access to the city. We have to be at the start line (Embarcadero) at 7 am.

Also, 2 of the couples will have cars and 1 will have a motorcycle, so we need an area that has parking available.

Thanks for any and all info.

This is a map of the areas of San Francisco for which you need a residential parking permit. You'll want to stay elsewhere, because you can't get one, and certainly not two or three.

Also, you'll want to stay someplace with good public transportation, since you won't find a parking space downtown on race day.

Note that the starting point for the race is a commercial area - no residential except for highrise condos.

If you go into VRBO, you can input your dates and search by number of bedrooms. Once you do that, if you find a few that meet your needs and budget, post them here and people will be able to tell you whether they'd work for you, location-wise.

Okay, Narrowed down to:

Funston and Moraga (Golden Gate Heights area) VRBO #2113907

Noe Valley- 2 blocks from 24th street VRB #278271

The Golden Gate Heights has a double car port, so parking is assured. Both are pretty close to "public transportation". What that means at 5:30 am is anyone's guess.

5:30 a.m. on a Sunday!!

I'd take that Noe Valley house in a minute. It could be on a hill (don't know the exact street it's on) and some of the hills are pretty steep. Public transportation to downtown is easy. It looks great. Let me know if you want me to drive by to make sure it's legit (they'd have to tell you the actual address first). Noe Valley is a great neighborhood (I used to live there).

As usual, I absolutely agree with sf7307! The Noe house is amazing. It would be a go for me with a bit more info:

A few things -
1. I would want to know about possible hilly location [from the front of house pic, could be as the front door is up pretty high with a lot of steps leading to it].

2. Ask about security deposit, cleaning fee and cancellation policy.

3. About street parking - you will not be able to park overnight on the street without a permit. 2 hours only if it is the same as most neighborhoods.

OK, you non-SF residents, permit parking in most residential neighborhoods only operate during the week. So if OP is going to be here over a weekend and after typically 6 pm on a Friday, it's not an issue.

Didn't realize they were only staying for the weekend. I would add another thing to check out; minimum stay?

True Deb. OP actually doesn't say how long, other than B to B weekend.

The area immediately around 24th street does not have permit parking - so that is not an issue. The J-Church from 24th & Church St will get you downtown to the start of B to B in 20-30 mins. When we lived a half block off 24th St on Jersey St, we took the J-Church to Bay to Breakers many times. We often parked a car near Golden Gate Park the day before the race for our ride back. 24th street should be really "hopping" after the Bay to Breakers.

Okay, confirms what I was thinking. Noe Valley it is. The hill does not bother us. We have to run steeper/higher/longer in the race anyway. And parking was my only real hesitation.
