Clearwater revival just outside of New York City at Croton on Hudson. Pete Seagert first started this festival to clean up the hudson river I think like 30 years ago. When I was younger he would sing and explain folk songs he brought back to the U.S like Lion King, Lakuaracha. Have also seen great story tellers here as well as folk music from all over the U.S. A great time and coming in June if you are around. Look it up on the web for details.

The Tulip Festival in Holland, Michigan held in early May is enjoyable. There's 6 miles of tulip-lined streets and great shows drawing top-notch talent for an entire week. Several places make wooden shoes which is an interesting process to watch. Hotel rooms difficult to get during the festival since many folks book a year in advance.

This year is the 50th Anniversary of the Begonia Festival in Capitola. It's a fun and funky place. More info http://www.begoniafestival.com/ Labor day weekend.
Float parade on Soquel Creek through the lagoon.
In Lake Tahoe in August:
The 30th annual Concours d'Elegance will take place at Sierra Boat Co., Carnelian Bay, California, August 9 & 10.
You can also hit the Hot August Nights in Reno August 3 to 11. Classic cars of the 50s and 60s. Never been so can't comment

My favorite festival is the Irish Cultural Center's Irish Festival at Stonehill College in Easton, MA. Irish food, story telling, equestrian competitions, and dog show and of course, Irish dance and lots and lots of music. This year Gaelic Storm (from the movie Titanic) and Anthony Kearns (from the Irish Tenors) are amoung the entertainers. Can't wait.
If you like Irish festivals you can travel the world to find them. Their everywhere from Oslo to Australia.

My son and some friends went to Burning Man last year. Actually only some of them made it because their vehicle expired of heat fatigue a couple of hundred miles short of the goal. (Imagine that.) Those that made it reported it was hot beyond all reckoning and don't plan to return. Ever.
Forgot to mention, the Lind Combine Harvester Demolition Derby and Rodeo is in early June this year. http://www.lindwa.com

My favorite festival is one that I help co-ordinate. Its the Yonkers Ukrainian Heritage Festival, held June 14,15, & 16. There are Ukrainian vendors, music, cultural exhibits, arts and crafts, and a variety of Ukrainian food, as well as rides. I cant wait for those perogies!
