Whale Watching Trip

My husband and I are traveling from Michigan to
Boston, Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and then
up to Bar Harbor, Maine. Where is the best
place to take a whale watching trip?

Any of the above EXCEPT Michigan.

Seriously, what time of year, that will make a difference too?

We 'Whale Watched' from Plymouth,

If you're doing a tour of the area you might want to spend the day in Plymouth and see Plymouth Rock (over-rated) and the Mayflower.

I have heard that Plymouth Plantation is interesting but have not visited yet - No excuse really, our library offers free passes

We will vist sometime (free pass or not) it's just that when things are on your doorstep there's no real urgency to visit them.

Don't know exactly where in Cape Cod you'll be visiting but the whale watching in Provincetown was one of the best ever, we love whales and try to do a tour whever the locale allows Some very nice tours to see the seals too near Chatham (forgot name)

travelinwifey,

have we had this discussion before?

crissy: It appears that all the boats in the area work together - and since they generally offer a 'guaranteed sighting' this works to their advantage.

One day a boat from Provincetown will see a whale - he notifies all boats in the area, the next day a boat from Boston sees a whale, he notifies all the other boats.

It works all ways - and makes them all successful businesses.

We did a whale watch out of Bar Harbor in early August a few years back. We were very happy with it, saw several whales. But it was cold! Bundle up and wear something that will keep you dry.

Sorry, forgot to add that I would definitely second the suggestion to visit Plimoth Plantation. It's wonderful!

We went whale watching last September 2004 when we stayed in Bar Harbor. A catamaran took us with a speed of 55 kilometers per hour, 30 KM% in sea and we say many whales. The boat had a biologist on board who explained everything . Very good!!!!We also visited Plimoth Plantation and you natives should absolutely see this. It's part of your heritage. Paul
