What are my chances of seeing whales in early March in San Diego and is there any real difference in the different trip providers? I can get a discount on Groupon with San Diego Whale Watch which is only $39 for 2 people. I've heard great things about Yacht America Whale Watch but they are over $80 per person!!

Have only gone out on a specific Whale Watching boat once - on Hornblower (had free tix) - and we saw several whales, but have seen plenty whales on some of the daily fishing trips i have taken.

No guarantees on any one trip - but March is in "season" for Grays.

Think we volunteered somewhere - and that was one of the prizes they handed out? And I was lucky - as I was on the "fantail" (rear deck) when I saw a whale and got to be the first to yell out: "Thar she blows". Great fun that.

Check on the rates several times - as sometimes they have deals - such as on Groupon, etc.

And if you don't get seasick - the smaller boats are fine.

Generally - the seas are fairly calm around San Diego - but to be sure - check the weather reports ahead of time.
