Westin Maui vs. other Hotel/Condo

My husband and I have stayed at the Westin Maui and love the view, their pools, it's closeness to many restaurants and Whaler's Village next door. However, we are looking to stay in the same area (oceanview) with a less expensive room rate. The Westin is $375-425 for oceanview. Would consider a condo with a pool.

We would truly appreciate any recommendations you may have. Thanks!

See "Mahana at Kaanapali" message above.
Lovely condo just north of Westin.

donna523: The Whaler (condo) and the Kaanapali Beach Hotel are both in the same general area as the Westin and are cheaper, but they don't have the level of services that you find at the Westin either. I have stayed at the KBH and liked it, but it is not anywhere as nice as the Westin, however I think the location on the beach is better. The Whaler is just next door to the KBH.

Thank you BobBarb and cueball! I will check out both the Mahana and The Whaler. The Whaler is closer to the area that we remember. However, I've been reading about the unfortunate beach erosion. We still plan to visit!

According to recent postings and pictures it looks like the beach is back to normal. Have a great time!

donna523, The beach at Kaanapali is just fine. We were there over Christmas and I had a hard time convincing my husband that the beach had not been there a month before.

Hi - just had to comment on the Whaler.. Husband and I were just there December 6-12, 2003 (won the trip) and will be going back March 12, 2004 for 7 days with our two boys. We just love the location as I am sure you do if you stayed at the Westin.. Very laid back..parking, elavators are underground and take you right to your condo just steps from your car. There have shopping carts to take up your groceries, etc. Next door to Whalers Village Mall and many great places to eat. Front desk, housekeeping and security are all wonderful. Grounds are closely guarded and pool just steps across boardwalk to a great beach, right next to Blackrock for snorkeling. We loved sitting in the pool and hot tub every night before turning in. Pool/hot tub are open until 10pm! When we stayed at the Sheraton 2002 the pool closes at 8pm it was a real disappointment for our boys who love to swim before bed. We like staying in studio on ground floor for easy acess to pool and beach for our two boys they just walk out of Lani (Patio) door we dont have to worry about them going down halls and elavators to the pool. When we were there in December, we asked front desk if we could see the 1 & 2 bedroom units.. they gave us temporary keys for a 12th floor (top floor)oceanfront 2 bedroom with wrap around lani and we also saw a 6th floor 1 bedroom. The units were both just beautiful and view are awesome - but we dont spend that much time in our condo so studio, ground floor is the way to go for us.. We rent from VRBO.com $155.00 for studio (includes taxes) we just cant bet that price for the location. 1 bedroom start at 200.00 and 2 bedroom start at 300.00 the higher the floor the more expensive the unit and the better the view. We stayed at the Alii in 2000 but like the beach location better at the Whaler and the Alii is alot more expensive. I just dont think you cant go wrong with the Whaler if price is a concern. Good Luck!
