West coast advice for English honeymooners

Hi were after a week or so on the west coast to end are honeymoon tour of California.
Were both in are late 20?s and want some where with stunning views beach side location and fairly lively. (Bars, restraints and café?s)
We also want somewhere that the weather will be nice and hot.
Looking at the first week in September.
Weve looked at both Laguna Beach and Pismo beach, what do you think?
Also like the look of Santa Barbara but maybe a bit expensive as we can only spend $130 per night, max.
Any ideas?

Sorry that?s "restaurants" not "restraints"! Bloody spellcheck.

Pismo's beautiful and great. Laguna Beach, great artsy town, but a little too high-end (read: expensive) and snob oriented for my tastes.

It can be hot in Pismo - or any central coast beach in early September, but no guarantees. The Pacific Ocean is much cooler than the Atlantic at similar latitudes, so fogs and cool onshore breezes can happen any time. Of course in September one can also get "Santa Ana" conditions up and down the coast, i.e., where there's an offshore, quite warm, wind, that not only raises the coastal temperature, but also makes for the best surfing conditions (eh, Surfergirl?)

My few times in Pismo have always been cold, but that's because it was in winter while we were harvesting the giant Pismo clams for which the area is formerly famous.

For me, I'd look farther south - Santa Monica, Manhattan/Hermosa, Huntington, Newport/Laguna, even the San Diego beaches from La Jolla down through OP, PB, MB.

Or - here's a thought - Avalon on Catalina Island - ferries now from several LA locations. Check out http://www.ecatalina.com/ Yeah, that's the ticket.

Your price point is going to be a problem with any nice places in any of those locations except possibly Catalina. Also be advised that the first Monday of September is a huge national holiday, traditionally the weekend before school starts, so crowds and prices will be peaking at the beach. OTOH, by that time the £ will be worth $2+, so why worry?

BTW, congrats.

Pismo is very nice, we love the Sea Venture Resort, but it's a little more expensive than you want.

Have you considered Cambria? It's beautiful and less pricey than Santa Barbara. ***kim***

Eagle Inn in Santa Barbara, or Laguna Riviera in Laguna Beach.

First Monday in September is a holiday in U.S., so you will get much better hotel rates a little later in September.
