We're back!

I'll be brief but should you have any questions, please don't hesitate.

We flew into Vegas Friday...arriving around 10:00pm. Took the shuttle to the car rental center and picked up our Alamo Chevy Cobalt. We then proceeded to get as lost as we've ever been!! We found ourselves bumper-to-bumper on the strip, trying to get over to 15?..we finally made it and got to our downtown hotel, the Vegas Club. (Briefly, we won this trip which included this particular hotel).

Thankfully, it get's better. The hotel was fine..no Wynn or Bellagio but a nice clean, big room. Saturday we headed for the Hoover Dam and took the tour. Sunday we went to Red Rock Canyon...another enjoyable tour. Aside from that, we ate and explored (and gambled a little) in the downtown area.
Last night we went to the Stratosphere to see the American Superstars show which we enjoyed. Today we drove back to the airport, found the car rental center after only getting 'slightly lost' and headed home.

My observations. I know we missed seeing the major sites of Vegas by not exploring the Strip more. As we drove along it Friday night we just couldn't get over the traffic and the number of people on the street. I think downtown was more our speed.

The best thing we did was to rent the car. It was great to have 'wheels' so that we could go where and when we wanted. The car rental (pre-paid..the way to go and avoid a line at the reservation counter) was $70 and it cost $19+ to fill the tank back up this morning. It was the best $90 we spent this weekend!!

All in all, we had a good time but I doubt we will do this again. But, in any event, we're glad we got to go and see what we did.

if you want more people to see your trip report - I'd suggest you re-post w/ a title that says where you are back from . . . . (all threads are lumped together under United States so your "We're back!" could be about anything anywhere)

You're right. Hopefully putting it in under 'Nevada' will let those interested read it.

I read another 'car renter's review' and want to touch on the 'Valley of Fire'. It was our intent to do it and the Hoover Dam in one day as they are sort of in the same direction. What is the saying about the 'best laid plans..? We got to the Dam about 9:30 which was perfect as we didn't get into any traffic which we saw lined up as we were leaving a few hours latet!! But we were "toured out" and it was VERY hot so we headed back to Vegas. (Valley of Fire was quite a ways from Hoover according to the map). Then the next day we opted for Red Rock Canyon, much closer to Vegas.

We liked the Cobalt! It was "peppy' with plenty of room for the two of us and easy on gas!

OK - assuming you are right -- you posted your report at 10:22 p.m. last night (which was still early in the evening out west) and not one person has commented about the report. Normally a LV post would have had several responses in in 10 hours.

Was just trying to help - but do what you like . . . . .

Putting it under Nevada will only help those that are seaching for Nev. info. I would also suggest a re-post if you are seeking comments/feedback.

Hmmm, very interesting comment. Please don't lose any sleep over this posting. If it gets read and helps anyone, fine. If it doesn't, the world will continue to spin.

A couple of more comments on something other than our 'car' as enough has been said about that!! We ate breakfast all three mornings at the Market Street Cafe. It was okay (breakfast is breakfast) and convenient being right across the street from the Vegas Club. Saturday we had brunch at the Main Street Station..we had a 'buy one, get one free' coupon. It was good. We went back Sunday evening as we had another coupon and, sadly, it was pretty bad. We wished we'd tried the GN as that was touted as another good buffet. Subway hit the spot Sunday for lunch.

On the plane there, the stewardesses anounced that they liked to pass info along and wanted to tell everyone that the show at Suncoast Casino was one of the best they'd seen! I know she mentioned an Elvis impersonator in it but I don't know what else it entailed. I called Suncoast first thing Saturday morning and they were sold out for the weekend. Anyone going soon might want to check it out.

We enjoyed the Freemont light show too.

The other posters are trying to do you a favor. As it is, you are only talking to yourself.

I probably should give up - but the only thing I find "interesting" is your reaction to our suggestions . . . . . .

My point was that when I looked for Vegas info myself, I did so by narrowing it down to Nevada and this shows up when that is done. Yes, I could have been more specific in my title but wasn't and I did not want to re-post. My point was that one "head's up" was sufficient. Time tracking my post and responses - or lack of - seemed a little overboard.

JMHO!

it ain't "time tracking" fer crying out loud! The time of every post is right there. And it doesn't take a brain surgeon to see you've had no responses. Even after having your thread topped several times. Instead of listening, you get on your high horse and think we are being busy bodies. whatever??

It just seems a pity that you went to all the trouble to write a report and now are too stubborn to take some helpful advice so others might actually read it . . . . . .

Thanks for the info. We stayed downtown at the Golden Nugget just over a week ago, and we gambled a little at the Vegas Club. Personally, for future trips I want to stay either on the strip or "near off strip" (Orleans or Gold Coast). FYI, we got lost getting to the airport to pick up my son in law and we have GPS. If you take a wrong turn at McCarran, it's very bad!

Some responses are "unbelieveable". Since I basically agreed with your 'first' title error notification, I fail to see your point in going on and on and on. Please give it a rest. When we get back from Italy in September, I will title that one "We're back from SPOTORNO!!" Enough already!

Now, back to Vegas. Trippinkpj, first, how in the world did you ever find this mis-titled post!!?? By the way, your comments from your trip were duly noted before we left. IF we ever go back (doubtful, we've reached the 'so many places, so little time' stage of life) we would probably go mid-week and hopeful avoid some of the crowds. I would watch for mid-week specials, like the $59 a night at the Monte Carlo or even the $119 at the Wynn that someone mentioned.

Someone said that the car rental terminal was hard to find and I second that. We had a map, got off at the Russell exit, turned onto Paradise and had no earthly idea of where we were or where to go. I stopped at a gas station and the very nice attendant told me I was close and drew me a map. That has to be one of the biggest, hardest to navigate airports!!

Hi esd- I found it, just by clicking the post title not knowing where you were back from, but thinking it was a trip report that might interest me. I do sometimes select Nevada posts, though I didn't this time. I personally prefer the way the Frommers boards are laid out, with the states being divided separately. Although, the volume of posts is so much lower I find it a little dull, LOL.

Esd, I clicked on your report just out of curiosity. Thanks for taking the time to put it together. I look forward to your "We're back from SPOTORNO!!" report. LOL! Have a great trip!

Not to beat a dead horse...but, if I were researching a trip to Vegas and typed Vegas into the search box, your trip report would not come up and I would not be able to read your report. That would be a shame because it is a good one and different than many that are posted. I think that is one of the most important reasons to include the place name in a post, it helps all of us later on when we start researching a trip.

Mine was titled "Las Vegas, NV trip report". It received 5 replies, so not exactly a great "turn out" LOL! Mine was more factual, and actually I do find esd's more colorful than my own. Iamq makes a good point.

maybe it's just me, but i found "We're back!" intriguing that's why I took the time to check it out. If it had been Las Vegas (which i have little interest in) I would have skipped it altogether.

esd, I clicked because someone had topped your report and the We're back! intrigued me. I was glad to see that it was Vegas because I have been having the Joneses for Vegas.

Good report. Thanks for telling us about your fun time!

I am always amazed with Vegas just how close our hotel is to the airport and just how very long it takes to drive there!

I'm planning a trip to Vegas and managed to find your post. I guess it helps to know what state you're going to!
