Weekend resort for my elderly Mom

Help! I am looking for a place to take my mom for a weekend in the fall. We'd like a place that maybe has good food, some nightime entertainment and not particularly geared towards children or families. She used to go to an Italian resort in upper NY and she says it was called "Villagio" but I can't find anything on it. Any suggestions? (we will be traveling from the Boston area).

In the Boston Globe today there is an article about Wentworth By the Sea - it is an older restored hotel - article and website speak of "a bygone era" and hint at famous people who have stayed there. Overlooking water and only an hour from Boston - she maynot want to travel too far, especially for a weekend.

Have never stayed there, driven by years ago - it is now a Marriott property.

Thanks! I actually JUST saw the article too! It might be the perfect place!
Any other suggestions out there?

The Balsams and the Mt. Washington Hotel are excellent properties, although quite a drive. I have stayed a couple of times at the Balsams in the winter for skiing and we have always had a fabulous time. The food is excellent. Foliage in this area is incredible. There is really nothing around the Balsams though but they offer quite a bit.

Just had another thought - Cliff House in Maine (only about 1 1/2 hrs from Boston). Website is cliffhousemaine.com (I discovered if you just go to cliff house you get someplace in San Francisco!)
