Weddings. Vermont. Anybody know Pitcher Inn or Mad River Barn?
This is all VERY preliminary, but our older daughter is looking at possible wedding venues for next year, and these two have been suggested. Has anyone vacationed or gone to a wedding at either of these?
Or anyone have any other locations to recommend? The groom spent many years skiing in this area and they met on ski slopes somewhere nearby, so they want somewhere around here.
The groom had visions of the bride and her dad to skiing or mountain biking into the ceremony (I doubt it, says Dad). The veggie, organic bride wants something small (75 +/- guests) with a really nice meal, preferably a farm to table type thing (doesn't have to be all veg). Talking April 2016, or possibly in the late fall. They're hoping to have a place with both nice and budget lodging on site or nearby, so friends can afford to stay the night.
Any comments or other venue suggestions welcomed.
...And our other daughter might also get married next year in the New York area... if so, I am really going to have a huge learning curve ahead...

April or late fall would be iffy for either skiing or mountain biking. I second the suggestion for the Round Barn - beautiful setting, close to several ski areas.
Our daughter got married in the same general area, and wound up choosing the Sumner Mansion, a rambling old mansion b&b in the small village of Hartland Vt. She had Anne Yates (local caterer/store owner/farmer) do the catering, and the Club Soda band do the music. We supplied the wine and beer. Everything was a 10. Another venue we looked at and was a close runner up was the Dartmouth Skiway in Lyme NH (very close to Vt). This is a beautiful new ski lodge that is available for weddings off season.

I hadn't focused on the times you are considering for the wedding. I agree with others that April weather is often not ideal. For example, it is snowing a little this morning at my house in north central VT. You definitely would not want to pick a wedding venue on a dirt road during mud season. Really!
I am not sure what you mean by "late fall." october is of course beautiful with foliage, but crowded. November is often depressing weather again.

I think it may be early april, as they said it would be the tail end of the ski season. Fall, I think is only a 2nd choice.
These barns look very pretty...are they heated?? Kind of hard to dress warmly as the mom of the bride from Hawaii.

As others have mentioned, early April is perhaps the worst time of year in this part of the country - we had a few sunny days in the low 60's that melted much of the snow, followed by a week of clouds, sleet, rain howling winds and temps in the high 30's. Right now it's 32 degrees with a light skim of snow on the ground. If you are set with early April, A handful of the larger ski areas may still be open, just don't plan on many outdoor activities. Of course Vermont is always beautiful! I'm not sure what you mean by heated barns - the Round Barn Inn is a very civilized upscale b&b open year round. There are some 'real' barns that you could rent for a wedding, (some are quite nice), but they wouldn't be heated.

The wedding we went to at Riverside Farm was October 6, peak foliage, beautiful day. One barn was used for the rehearsal dinner the night before, and another for the reception. Wedding ceremony was outdoors. Even though peak season, we found reasonable rooms near Killington Ski area.
