Wedding Dress Shopping in NYC

If you are looking for the type of dresses that they carry at simpledress.com, many of the suggestions here won't work for you.
It is unlikely that you can find a made to order dress at Kleinfeld's or Marc Ingram or Vera Wang, or most places in NYC for under 1000 USD, such as those at Simple Silhouettes.
Marc Ingram and Kleinfeld carry better names in wedding gowns, and most dresses will be at the very least more structed than those at Simple Silhouettes (the name of the company and store on Brdwy).
We did see a few dresses at Kleinfeld that were samples on sale, but they all needed some work.
None of these places will see you without an appointment, and large stores like Barney's and Saks will be booked pretty far in advance.
The Bridal Building is a hit and miss affair. Not all companies will be open to visitors that don't have appointments.
How much is your budget? How long is your lead time?
There are many many bridal stores in NY. Setting your budget and knowing if you have enough time to place an order will help us make suggestions.
There are some designers in the East Village with gorgeous dresses with a more sleek silhouette, but not inexpensive.

If you come to Boston, check out Priscilla's of Boston. Very beautiful gowns. My sister got one at their sale a bizillion years ago and to this day it is the prettiest most intricate dress I have ever seen. Absolutely gorgeous and classic. I got my bridesmaids gowns there and they actually made my friends happy.
