Another place we stopped into while we were in Lahaina just out of curiousity, but ended up making a fairly major purchase was the Honolulu Cookie Company. They make these really delicious shortbread cookies in the shape of a pineapple. They come in all sorts of flavors from pineapple to lilikoi to chocolate dipped coconut, etc, etc. The shop was very cute and the product was well merchandised (my old business was retail store design) and sort made you want to buy their products. WARNING! They are not cheap! Something this good though is worth the price...especially when on vacation.
They do custom gift box combos that would make great holiday gifts. Of course the will deliver all over the world. In fact most everyone on my list next year is going to get a box. We bought a couple of bags and they were gone in two days. Addictive is the adjective that comes to mind.

iceeu2-Loved the tea story. The tea was very good and the bottle was very big but not sure about that $20 price tag. Probably a better value than my wine, though.
iamq-Wow those cookies sound so good. Well that will be a good reason for me to return to Maui soon but I may have to order some before then!

"Songdoc...we are shooting for May/June (late b'day present for Mrs K) for Taste Of Hawaii but I'm sure we'll be in different places together again on Kauai."
Can't she move her birthday? I won't arrive until late June and will stay through the Kauai Music Festival which will be July 14 - 16.
I want to know how that $20 tea tasted. I hope it was like Dom Perignon.
Reminds me of Norway. At an admittedly very expensive, elegant restaurant we had 2 sandwiches; 2 coffees; 1 dessert ... $115. AGGGHH.

Enough already with the $20 bottle of tea!!!!!!! I was shocked that such a thing even existed.
It was delicious and being "rich Californians" (icee calls us that all the time) we could certainly afford it so why the hell not? LOL.
Like I said it is one of those travel stories that will or apparently already has taken on a life of its own.

I recall my time at the Four Seasons fondly. On a night of great heartbreak we met a new friend at Spago's bar and talked story. He drank a bottle of Chrystal and a bowl of mashed potatoes.
The tea sounds divine! And much better then a bottle of black bottle champagne.

Tins full of Honolulu Cookies were my 2010 holiday gifts to family...with an extra one for me since the shipping charges were the same. I may have to order more for continued taste tests to determine which are my favorite flavors. (NOT the one with the coffee bean in the middle)

ynotc, if you email me at wp94025 at yahoo dot com I MIGHT divulge the particulars.
kanunu...and no overpriced kayak rental stories, and tales of crappy restuarants and no tales of reef walkers at Ka'e either and indignant tourist complaining that there is nothng to do!
I love that word spurned!
Forever is an awful long time...Not to worry...once Hanalei is in under your skin, there is no getting it out. There is NOTHING like Hanalei on Maui. There is nothing like Makua (Tunnels) beach on Maui either.
apples and oranges...mangoes and lilikois, etc, etc...
Nice to see you posting!

jillc1, If you like lush green beauty and isolation and natural wonders, spending a few nights in Hana or Kipahulu might be interesting. Then again, a few nights on the beach in Wailea/Makena would be great as well.
beanweb just posted some great information on the places he/she ate on his/her 4 day solo trip. Check out his/her trip report.
Dayenu, don't knock being lashed with a wet noodle until you've tried it! Skip the tea.
