Jocelyn--Oh I am so glad I am not alone...I have not been to NO either. We drove through during a move once, but it was middle of the night and we did not stop, so it does not count.

My poison tonight is dessert, like llrpurch. A little square of fudge that goes really well with a Tualatin Valley Estates Gewurz. This was much needed...dealt with a horrible service dept at a car dealership today. I really don't like those places to begin with, but when they are insulting and rude, then I need some poison DH has a glass of scotch right now and is writing a letter to the GM of the dealership as well as the corporation itself.

I just cannot have much tonight. I am a lightweight and have to be up early tomorrow for kids football and soccer games. I will TRAVEL to the football game...a town that I had never even heard of and I grew up here, lol! Wonder if it will be the next hot spot in tourist destinations for Oregon? LOL!

Hi Statia! Knew you'd have some good stories about NOLA to share!

MMS, I'm sorry you won't get there as obviously you don't get it. There's much more to NO(LA) than drinking. And the violence that came from a segment of their population under extreme duress should not taint your thoughts of the whole city. It has always been a wonderful place for citizens and visitors alike. Comparing it to 9/11 is absurd. 9/11 took place in a primarily non-residential business district of NYC. Nobody there was trapped in shelters for a week on end without food and water. Different circumstances altogether my friend.

Perhaps a trip to the big easy would've done you good. As a mid 30's Interior Designer and owner of a business myself, I have enjoyed that city on many levels. Culinary, Architectural, Historical and just plain fun.

N'Awlins, NOLA, NO, The Big Easy - whatever your name for her...a truly wonderful place to visit in the past and again in the future!

tpatricco,

You mean MHS, correct? I wouldn't correct you except that mms has also posted to this thread.

mms, the joke at our house growing up was that you would need another piece of fudge so that it would "come out even." Then you'd finish the wine before the fudge was gone, so you'd need more wine...you get the picture.

Hi tpatricco,I don't mean to jump in to the middle of this but reading your post of 10:37pm tonight addressed to mms....well I think that some clarification is in order.

mms said she had only driven through NO during the night. She then went on to talk about the car dealership service department they had to deal with which obviously was not a pleasant experience.

It was MHS that wrote the thread about her feelings about NO, NOT mms.

Just wanted to clear this confusion up. Best wishes to all. Cin,cin!

Oops, forgot all about the Napoleon House. We had a muffaletta and a pimm's cup. Both were wonderful, grumpy waiter and all.

P.S. Local store was out of Bonny Doon, so I'm working on a bottle of Smoking Loon chard.

Hi Jocelyn_P....you think I am drinking, LOL? Well to tell you the truth I am!!! I am having the start of a 3rd glass of chardonnay. Had a friend come over with food in hand for an early dinner. She is a love. And so one one glass of wine with dinner and a second glass after dinner while we chatted and then sat down to Fodors and thought "what the heck" and poured a third glass, LOL.

I sure hope that everyone here on Fodors has a relaxing weekend one way or another. I know we have all been through a lot of stress these last days. Some more then others. Hugs to everyone.

I am absolutely sure that Trish was addressing MHS who most certainly did NOT get it

Hi mms, Joc, Trish, Love, indy, heavens, PM, viamar, crefloors, llpurch, austin & caph! Our poison tonight was a nice French Cotes du Rhone with a pizza from Whole Foods

My grandparents lived in Metairie La, years ago. My grandfather was chef at the Court of Two Sisters back then ( I hear it was much better then ) ..
I never got to go visit, we always talked about going, but sadly, we never did make it there..I wanted to visit the Garden District.
I think it will all come back one day, a lot of it changed, some of it the same, hopefully, safer and better. From my mouth to someones ears

LoveItaly--3 glasses...man, I would be out cold on the floor! lol! My glass is a sherry glass...and I am not done with it yet and already feeling it! I am a wimp though

You ladies are all so sweet to me...but poor Trish is going to realize the oops and I don't want her to feel bad. So Trish...please don't worry about it...I know you were not meaning me

Scarlett--You realize that Whole Foods thing is really not fair? Not when the big news here is that we are getting a Red Robin, lol! Granted, they are fine, but definitely not the same caliber.

Somehow I have managed some restraint tonight...only the 1 piece of fudge! I think that might be a record. And yes...it was a tiny piece, lol!

Yes, sorry MHS, not mms. mms, my apologies for the error.

Here we are at the bottom of the bottle of Sangiovese, I did share a little with DH. Yes, Bonny Doon makes some great stuff. Big House Red among our other daily drinking favorites.

mms, fudge & Guwurtz. sounds yummy. Might just have to try that. We usually have Guwurtz. with sushi.

Hi Scarlett! Glad to hear Pup is finding friends in Portland!

In about 40 minutes (6PM Hawaii time), I'll be at the opening reception for the Hawaii Woodshow at Aloha Tower Marketplace. Lots of wine there!

I'm fortunate to have gone to NOLA twice--once when I was nine, with my parents. They took me down Bourbon Street, gawking at all the wild places and everything!

The second time was in October 2003. I toured the French Quarter and took a trolley tour. Then I had a threesome with Kal & Mrs. Kal.

Trish--When my mom was here we had a dinner out of a Vino Gelato and fudge. Yes...nothing else! My dh thought my mom was kidding, but he soon realized she wasn't and he saw that it was a fine dinner

Well then Trish, you may have to come to a Portland GTG since I think we all could just do wine and desserts

My poison tonight is a '95 Silver Oak Cabernet. Great with a roasted chicken.
We wre in NO a few years ago and had dinner at Paul Prudhomme's (SP?). Earlier that day I found a wonderful wine shop almost next door---Vieux Cave, I believe. Anyway, I checked with the restaurant and found that they allowed diners to bring their own wines and pay a corkage so I bought my first bottle of Montrachet, a French wine from Chardonnay grape. It was the most money I had ever paid for a bottle of wine and when the server saw what we were drinking he was impressed enough to waive the cork fee.
I'll always remember that bottle of wine and the dinner. Sure hope both came out alright. I'm really looking foward to going back.

Goodness, Scarlett....how far back are we talking with your grandfather? My mother and father had their first honeymoon brunch at Court of Two Sisters and she still raves about it to this day. I have to admit that I've never been there myself, but the name always puts a smile on my face. Maybe I can make that a stop on my next trip.

Melissa....please do tell us about the threesome with Kal and Mrs. Kal. Sounds kinda kinky.
