Washington Square B and G

will be going to San Francisco soon for the first time in about 10 years. Is the Washington Square Bar and Grill still in operation, and is it still as good as I remember it? I notice its not listed in the Fodors Guide anymore.

Was still there this past summer. But I haven't been there for a couple of years now, when I still had a really nice lunch at "the washbag".
It's changed hands a couple of times over the years I believe. Wasn't the original owner, Moose, the guy who started Moose's across the park, which has now also changed hands? It's an ever changing world.

Yes Patrick you are correct except to my knowledge I don't think he has sold Moose's just new manager and chefs all the time.

I haven't been to Washington Sq. in ages, haven't really heard much about it in quite awhile. Moose's still have the "in crowd" meet there from time to time but last time I was there for a Sunday Brunch I wasn't overly impressed, neither were my friends. It was OK but not so OK I would rave about it to others.

As Patrick said, it's an ever changing world, and it sure is.

I think your history might be right Patrick. It was Cobalt for a while and now it's the "Washbag" again.
We still think it pretty good even if
Herb Caen isn't at the bar.
Them was the days!

We were there in January 2003 and had fantastic mussels at the bar. Commented to the barkeep that we were glad to see that it wasn't the "blue place" anymore, which he found pretty amusing. It's one of my favorite places to visit on a Saturday afternoon, as it still seems to have a lot of local clientele. We chatted with some of them at the bar and had a nice time.
