I am waiting for one of those breathers - it's 95 right now and humid and miserable!

Anyway, just wanted to echo the previous posts that DC is still very much worth visiting, and the added security shouldn't interfere much at all.

One other note: if you want to see the Capitol Building, definitely call ahead to your Congressman/woman's office and arrange for their staff to give you a tour. This allows you to avoid waiting in lines, and being with staff also means you can walk thru the tunnel from the Representative's office to the Capitol and avoid the heat.
