Washington D.C. bound

I am planning on visiting Washington D.C. this summer, and I want to stay in a nice hotel near the White House. So far I have about narrowed it down to the Madison, a Lowes hotel, L'Enfant, and Hyatt Regency Washington D.C. on Capitol Hill. Any opinions on these hotels or any suggestions for other hotels would be greatly appreciated.

I would skip the Loewes. I have stayed there for meetings and was not impressed by the location, which was not convenient for the restaurants I wanted to go to.

The hotel was okay but not as good as the Loewes in Philadelphia or the Loewes in Santa Monica.

Definitely the Madison. As the other poster said, L'Enfant Plaza is kind of out of the way. The Hyatt is an fine hotel, but the Madison is on a different level.

Of the three you mention, I would go with the Madison, followed by the Hyatt. I would not even consider L'Enfant.

Another option - even nicer and much closer to the White House (1 block) is the Sofitel Lafayette Square.

And the Hyatt Regency isn't near the White House, it's up near Union Station.

L'Enfant sucks.

Hyatt is very nice.

I've never been to the Madison.

Thank you all for your suggestions. They are all great, and I welcome any more I can receive. I have now marked L'Enfant off my list, and I am looking even closer at the Madison. Thanks for the Sofitel suggestion. I am going to do a little research on that one too. I plan to use Travelocity or the Southwest Vacation site to make my final plans, so I want to see if the Sofitel is listed on either of those. You guys are terrific, and I am glad I found this forum.
