W Hotel in NYC

Anyone have information on the W Hotel in NYC (49th Street and Lexington)? Good/Bad comments are welcome. Thanks. James.

My son-in-law stayed there on a business trip and loved it so much that my daughter and him are going back in December. It's quite pricy, as I'm sure you're aware, but he did enjoy it very much.

You will like W if: you are very cool; you like beige and black decor; you are very cool; you like minimal furniture; you are very cool; you are very young and up and coming; you like to stay up late; you are very cool.

My personal take on the W hotels is this: they are newly redone hotels that have such small rooms people would scream if they continued the Westin or Sheraton name. So instead, they call them W, give you "hip" decor that is totally unpractical -- a pedestal sink you can't even fit your tootbrush on, a miniature closet that won't hold clothes, a bed often pressed against a wall so if there are two of you one will have to climb over the other. Well, you get the picture. The above post was right. They are places to go if you just want to be "cool", not comfortable or practical.

Carol - if you can't offer anything constructive - shut up. And XXX, you seem to be a little crabby today, all of your NYC posts are sarcastic!

W is well-located, offers very clean rooms, wonderful sheets, nice bath amenities, there are spa services for an extra fee, and the other "extras" you would expect at a luxury boutique hotel. Staff is very friendly & helpful. I would certainly return.

While Carol's response may be termed creative, I certainly got the right image of a W hotel. I've stayed in two of them and she has it right.
So I think her post was very constructive and helpful.

I believe that's the W Tuscany James. There are 2 right next to each other at that address, we stayed at the Tuscany, of the 2, it had larger rooms. The rooms were actually quite large, about 500 sguare feet, which is huge by NY standards. Anyway, it is very milimilist, the room was nice, but the lobby was almost too minimilast, non existant really. Very small lobby, the W Union square is a better choice in that regard. The W right next door (not the Tuscany, but I can't remember the name), has a nicer lobby with a bar and restaurant.

The concierge was very helpful. If you like hanging out in an elaborate lobby, That particular W will be disapointing.

W sells a great CD called "Rhythm & Muse II" - very eclectic and chic. The
song "Silence" by Delerium (featuring Sarah Mclachlan) is awesome !!

I stayed at the W Court a couple of months ago and enjoyed it a lot. Great location, a nice change from the typical drab chain hotels. My room was small, but had a HUGE walk-in closet and a nice sized bathroom; by NYC standards, it was more than adequate. The staff was very very helpful, the high speed Internet access a welcome change, the bed extraoridarily comfortable.

People either seem to love or hate the Ws. I find them inventive, interesting, and a refreshing change.
