I am an owner. I am one pissed cowboy. I knew the original owners of VRBO. their concept was simple...provide a clearing house for owner to offer their vacation houses to the traveler.
Since they sold the site it has stepped slowly into a quagmire.
They have no right to use the "

Why VRBO?

We recently rented a house that we found on VRBO. I knew the total price (including fees) going in, but it still ticks me off, because after I reserved the house, all correspondence came from Vasasa, not VRBO, but I was still charged $148 by VRBO. What did I need VRBO for if the house was also listed on Vacasa?

umm, to find it? You said you found it on VRBO, right? So they are providing a huge internationally-known name and platform and ads for people to list their rentals and that's where you found it. VRBO isn't run by a charity, it's a business that is providing a service that people who list there find valuable or they wouldn't list there. No one is forcing anyone at gunpoint to list on VRBO.

I understand that, but why are there two "levels" -- why couldn't I "find" it on Vacasa, in which case I would have paid one fee, not two. I didn't know Vacasa was involved until AFTER I had made the reservation. Once it was made, all communications were from Vacasa, not VRBO.

very expensive finder fee for a service that has a digital system....the processor in the server...the only labor is the ceo walking the payment to his bank

you can find a number of homes on FRBO and they are growing.... and they do not get between the owner and the visitor...just simple transactions....
VRBO is blowing smoke up everyone's butt making you think they protect your holiday...bull...

I Googled FRBO. The first site on the first page was VRBO, an ad, but they are clearly targeting FRBO, a competitor of the new VRBO that is like the old VRBO.

Christina, you miss the point that vrbo changed its model from charging owners for the site to charging renters. It's called greed and double dipping, and they do it because they can.
