Volcanos & Snorkling
Hello everyone,
I am going to Hawaii next month and I really want to see the volcanos.
I know the best volcano park is in the Big Island, but we are only visiting Kuai and Maui.
Does anyone know if we can find any volcano sites in any of these two islands?
Also, from reading people's suggestions on snorkling, I think Maui is the best place for that.
How much does it cost for snorkling and what is the best company to go with?
thanks

hi n,
of maui's 2 volcanoes, haleakala crater is the main tourist attraction. it takes us about 3 hours to get to the summit from kahului, and most people go for the sunrise or sunset above the clouds (i've been at sunrise once, looks like some of those fantasy book covers). there are hiking trails and guided walks, and just the crater view is spectacular. it's classified as dormant so no lava flow (yet, hopefully)but it really is an experience. there are also some companies that offer biking down from the park down to the bottom.
i'm not up on the snorkel companies in maui, but make sure you go out to molokini crater to snorkel, a friend went there and raved for years about swimming next to a turtle.
btw, if anyone reading this remembers that place where to get cream puffs on the way down from haleakala, please leave it, i've been told twice but i keep forgetting and i always mean to stop there one day.
have a great time!

We went with the Pacific Whale Foundation and had a great time. They are a non-profit org. with proceeds going for a good cause. Naturalist onboard, reef tours, demonstrations etc.
Saw beautiful fish, dolphins, sea turtles!! Just 2 weeks ago. Very reasonable..they are online.
Aloha
