Visiting Haleakala - health question
Hi,
Can anyone tell me what kind of health problems would prevent individuals from visiting the top of Haleakala? I would really like to see the sunrise, but am unsure as to what health reasons might prevent this experience. Thanks.
Anne

Here is website for Haleakala Park:http://www.haleakala.national-park.com/visit.htm
It states that "Persons with heart or respiratory problems and pregnant women should check with
their doctor before coming to the Park, given the reduced oxygen at high elevation." Hope this helps.

My husband got very sick on the way up as it is over 10,000 feet. We did not realize he would get sick from the altitude. He was having trouble breathing but he has had heart trouble the past few years. We had to turn around and go back down immediately. Maybe you could take the drive slowly and she if you begin to feel sick. I wish we had known more about altitude sickness before we went up.
