Visit the California redwoods while you can
Burl poachers with ATV's and chain saws and poaching burl from the redwoods - cutting huge chunks out of the trees to sell for furniture that sells for thousands of dollars. Now they have had to close a road through the redwoods at night and step up patrols to deter them
I guess I should not be surprised that people go to such lengths for money but it certainly makes me sad.
The place in Oregon near Klamath mentioned in the article is one of my favorite spots

As a lot of you know, I live in a redwood forest.
Last week, the head of the local water company came by and said CalFire had ordered him to cut down a bunch of redwoods on his property which is adjacent to ours. For three days, DH and I had to endure the cutting down of these beautiful trees, many of them more than a hundred years old. Every time one was cut, it would make a horrific noise and rattle the house as if we were having an earthquake.
DH and I felt as if someone was killing our pets or murdering our kids - it was awful!
Sigh,
Lisa
