Virginia college tour.

I'm taking my daughter to see some colleges in Virginia next week and need help with places to stay. Can anyone recommend hotels in Williamsburg or Charlottesville? We'll only be spending the night but I don't sleep well so need comfort. I'd also like to stay in the $100 a night category. Thanks for any recommendations.

In Williamsburg, you might try the Sleep Inn on Bypass Road. It's one of the newer hotels. I've stayed there, the beds were comfortable, the place quiet, and set back from the road a ways (there's a Golden Corral between the hotel & the road). Go to roomsavers.com or get one of those green coupon books at interstate rest areas and you can probably get a rate of about $40 on weeknights.

In Charlottesville I'd stay at the Courtyard-UVA Medical Center since its just past the campus and within walking distance to pretty much anything on campus. Alternatively there's the Omni on the downtown mall but its a bit more expensive and you can't really walk to campus from there.

Almost across the street from W&M is the Hospitality House, a more upscale & pricy place then Sleep Inn - I've never stayed there. Probably could get rooms in your $100 price range. Also might wish to look into Colonial Williamsburg hotels. A few B&B's in the area as well.

The Hampton Inn & Suites is also well situated in Charlottesville and is another good choice.

Call 1-800-history for a rate in Colonial Williamsburg. I recently stayed at the new part of the Motor Lodge and it was very nice, quiet, in that price range & included breakfast. The previous Courtyard response in Charlottesville is perfect. Don't forget JMU - it's an easy drive from Chatlottesville.

Try the bed and breakfast Inn at 802 in Williamsburg. Just down the street from W&M. 757 345-3316 Nice people with kids in that age range.
