Views of Lake Powell

Will be in the Page and Lake Powell area in mid-September. I am looking for any suggestions for scenic views of Lake Powell. We are planning to do a couple of the boat tours.

I found a posting on another website that stated "A mile south of Wahweap there is a short side road to a viewpoint on top of a small hill, with a full 360 degree view over Page." Does anyone have the mile marker for this road?

Also does anyone know the mile marker for Horseshoe Bend? We were there a few years ago, but I can't remember it.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Your question, What mile marker? is very specific and can only be answered by one of the Utah specialists on this board. Topping refers to just adding a response to your question so that you go back up to the top of the messages.
You'll also sometimes see ttt which means to the top. I am interested in the answer so I am sending you back to the top!

We were just out there last week and the trail to Horseshoe Bend was marked with the typical highway marker and arrow....off Arizona 89 on the south side of town. It wasn't far out of town and the path went up a rather small but steep incline...but very obvious from the road. Perhaps the road you have read about is the same as the Horseshoe Bend view?

You might want to check out http://www.desertusa.com/colorado/Gl...cnra_hike.html. Lists several short hikes and directions to including Horseshoe Bend. Have been there at dawn and late afternoon. If you want the entire horseshoe to be lit try mid-day, otherwise will start getting some shadows from the adjacent walls. Clouds and/or storm add interest to the scene. If you want an excellent guide would suggest you call Jackson Bridges in Page. He has a 4x4 and can take you to many out of the way sites.

To get to Horseshoe Bend, drive about 4 miles south of Page on 89 to a short blacktop road that goes off to the west. It's 2 tenths of a mile south of mile marker 545 according to this website.

I would recommend the Rainbow Bridge Boat tour and then instead of a second boat trip, try the Float trip on the Colorado River out of Page. Link to my pictures on the float tour:

Another great place to visit nearby is the Upper Antelope Slots Canyons.

Utahtea...I've been busy remodeling so haven't been on the boards lately!

Thanks to all for your help. We actually did the Colorado float trip in 2002. I loved the float trip so much we are doing it again. We also have planned the Rainbow Bridge and Tapestry tour that takes you through the Canyons. We also toured the Antelope Canyons in 2002. Thanks all!

tweety13,

Before you book that Tapestry tour I'd ask if you would see the same places on the Rainbow Tour.

When you find out how to reach that viewpoint in Page, please post how to get there. I've never been to that spot!

Thanks to all for your advice--just back from Lake, Zion and Bryce. There is a Scenic View sign between the two entrances to Wahweap Marina--I assume this must have been the one I asked about.

There is now sign for Horseshoe Bend. It is about 3 miles South on Rt 89 on the right.

Utahtea, Thanks for your suggestion--I did call the Wahweap Marina to confirm we would not see the same thing on the Rainbow Bridge as on the Tapestry Tour. While we did see different areas Lake Powell, I would not suggest to do both. Rainbow Bridge was definitely worth it. If time was limited the Tapestry was also nice. The Tapestry tour went back into two side canyons to see the "Tapestry" on the canyon walls.

tweety13,

How was the lake levels? Did you have to hike to see Rainbow Bridge and is so, how far and how long did it take you?
