Versaille, France

Is Versaille to far from Paris to be based there and take a train back and forth to the city??

I am planning our first trip to Switzerland and a side trip to PAris/Versaille.

Thanks,
JG

We stayed in Paris & took a train to Versaille for the day. No problem. It was leaving from Gard du Nord, I believe. You will really enjoy it.

Most people do the reverse. Why stay at Versaille and not Paris? There are lots of tour buses and trains, as benj says, to Versaille.

You might get better response on the Europe site.

Not sure what you're asking. You want to stay in Versaille and take the train to Paris?

You're suggesting staying at a hotel at Versailles and traveling to Paris multiple days to explore Paris? I wouldn't recommend it - it's not a terribly long train ride to Paris, but it is 45 minutes away, so that's a bit of a commute to start and end each day. Not a terribly scenic ride, either (at least on the day we went).

I'm not sure why you'd want to stay all the way out in Versaille if you plan to go into Paris each day.

Another suggestion to post this and do some reading on the 'Europe' branch of Fodors.
