My wife & I are taking a summer trip through the New England states. We are looking for places to stay as we travel up highway 100 trough Vermount. Any suggestions, also any general suggestions about must sees.

Buy yourself a Delorme or Northern Cartographic Atlas of Vermont. Barnes & Nobles or Borders usually carries the Delorme brand we can get atlas from all over the country (at our local ones anyway). Some of the best places to see are "off the beaten path". If you see a dirt road that looks intereting, take it!
Route 100 follows the Green Mountains-you'll go through many ski towns,and small little villages. Up in Stowe, be sure to take Route 108 through Smuggler's Notch. Take the gondola at Stowe Mountain Resort to the almost top of Mount Mansfield. You can hike to the summit from there. Or you can hike the whole mountain or drive to the summit via the auto road. Stowe has a great recreation path where you can walk/run/inline-skate/bike. Visit the Ben & Jerry's factory in Waterbury. Take a side trip to Cabot to visit the Cabot Creamery. Take a side trip to Woodstock and visit the Billings Farm and Museum. Dont know what your interests are, but hope this is a start. There are tons of great things to see/do in Vermont.

As the above poster mentioned, there are so many great places in Vermont. Billings farm is a very nice place. We stayed at a b&b farm in Rochester Vt. many years ago called Harvey's Mountain View, a very secluded b&b on a working dairy farm high in the Green Mountains.
Woodstock, Middlebury, and Stowe are 3 very nice, medium sized towns; there are countless tiny villages and dirt roads to explore!
