What to do in Fort Ticonderoga?

Not to be facetious, but the fort, itself, would be something to see, at least!

Middlebury itself is not on Lake Champaliln. Believe the ferry you are referring to is the one that leaves Charlotte, Vt for Essex, NY. It's a very short ferry ride but fun.

Once on the New York side, turn south and that should get you to Fort Ticonderoga. The Fort is worth an all-day or almost all-day visit.

There is a ferry between Ticonderoga NY and Shoreham, VT, which is just west of Middlebury. The Essex/Charlotte ferry is 1/2 hour plus north.
Fort Ticonderoga is a nice spot and very interesting. The town of Middlebury is nice with some nice shops. The Middlebury College campus is pretty.

The driving time from the Shoreham cable ferry to Middlebury is approximately 1/2 hour. Both Fort Ti and Middlebury are fun places to visit. In addition to the shops in Middlebury, there are some good restaurants.

I should have mentioned that if you are planning to stay in Middlebury in Oct. you should be making reservations. Between College activities adn "leaf peepers" it can be very busy.
