my brother is moving to vegas for a job and wants us to visit. We will not be staying with him (too small) so I need ideas on where to stay and what to do.

With multiple kids I'd suggest one of the Embassy Suites or Residence Inns, both of which have multiple (3) beds in some of the rooms.

I would say if you want to stay on the strip stay at the Excalibur. It's a cheap haven for families with small children.

responding to white trash comment.The last vacations my family has taken have been to Austrlia, Ireland, renting houses on the beach etc. My brother is an engineer my sister in dental school. Just because we enjoy spending time with family is why we will be visiting him.

Since when did become white trash just because they want to visit relatives on vacation? I think it's nice that she has a good relationship with her brother and wants to visit and is trying to make it a pleasant family stay.

My vote goes to Excalabur for lodging. It's styled like a Camelot castle and caters to families.

Moss, pay no attention to Boring and the other jerks. And, there is no need to defend yourself as to why you are going to Las Vegas with your family. Anyone who is so insecure and childish and who actually takes the time and effort to try to make clever insults on a travel board is really not worth the trouble to reply to. If they themselves were actually travelling and had a life, well, 'nuf said.

I think you should stay on the strip unless your brother lives too far from it. Unless he is going to be with you all day, every day of your visit, you will need to be someplace where there are things for you to do. My pick would be either the Mirage (for location and all the animals) or Excalibur. Mandalay is a bit pricey. The Mirage has more free eye candy for the kids (white tigers & a huge fish tank). The zoo and dolphins you have to pay to see. They have the volcano right outside, you are next door to the pirate show at Treasure Island, and fairly close to the fountains at Bellagio.

Vegas is NOT a place for kids, especially a 5, 3 and 5 month old. Vegas is an ADULT place. Anyone who takes kids that young to Vegas should have been sterilized and never allowed to reproduce!!!!

Moss: Don't be stung by the idiot responses. They're just an unfortunate fact of life here.

Although it's yet to be mentioned, it would seem that one of your first requirements, given the kidlets, is a pool. And when are you going? If the temps are waaay up there, you won't be able to expose the children to the heat long enough to enjoy some of the 'free' entertainment - the lavish displays outside hotels (pirates, water shows, etc).

My father retired to Vegas and if I did not bring the grandkids to him he would not get a chance to see them, he will not fly. I have found some great things for kids there. Circus Circus has great rides and free circus acts. My five year old loved the aquarium at Mandaly Bay. Also, secret garden at the Mirage. Do be careful with the heat and little ones. For kid friendly dining don't miss the rain forest cafe at the Mirage.

Iwould agree with one of the earlier posters about staying at an Embassy Suites or Residence Inn.
You have VERY young children, and I think it will make a WORLD of difference by staying at a non-casino hotel. Reason being is that wether you self-park or valet park, it almost always is a LONG walk to your hotel room in a casino hotel. With several small kids in tow, that makes a differnce, when you can park and in a small walk get to the hotel elevator and to your rm. Additionally, extended stay hotels include breakfast, and again, with kids, that will not only save money, but time and effort. Although places like the Excalibur have cheap breakfast buffets, the LINES for them are HORRENDOUS - and that's no fun with smallkids in tow.
How do I know so much advice? Well, I spent Christmas with my parents and sister and her small kids in Vegas. She stayed at a couple of differnet places, both casino and non-casino.
She felt the best was the Emabassy Suites near The Hard Rock Hotel. The good thing about that location is that it is walking distance to the Hard Rock casino; it was a GOOD thing for my brother-in-law to be able to walk to the Hard rock,have a drink and some gambling for a couple of hours, while my sis watched TV with the kids.

Come on people 5, 3 and a baby in Vegas? Give me a break! I go to Vegas regularily and have seen parents dragging their kids through the casinos, into bars and shows. Places where it is not appropriate to take kids. Vegas is for adults not kids.

Shannon-If you want to take your kids to see your brother, hang out at his house or go to the Grand Canyon. Leave Vegas and the strip for adults!

Al - what the heck is your problem? At no point did Moss indicate an intention to drag her kids thru the casinos. You're like the muddle-headed misanthropes here who think that children should be ruled off airplanes. Our society is a far-flung one...if you want to visit family, you often have to take a plane to do it...and you might even have to - heaven forbid - enter the boundaries of a town like Las Vegas. Cripes, Fodors has to suffer spelling police and fashion police and typing police and now...goofs who rule an entire town off-limits to people who just happen to have children. Get a grip.
