My wife and I are going to vegas for the first time on our 25th wedding anniversary trip in mid March.What is the most romantic restaurant in vegas? We have reservations to stay at the Paris right now but I'm thinking of switching to the Venetian.Opinions on that? Are there any realy dark old style Martini bars to sit and talk for a while? What else is cool to do in Las Vegas?

We stayed at the Paris in November and I was disappointed. The MGM has great rooms and great restaurants. Several of their restaurants have very nice bars, including Blue, Craft Steakhouse and the Italian restaurant. The Venetian also has some nice resturants. As I said, we did stay at Paris, but having stayed at The MGM, Mirage and after visiting the Wynn Resort, Paris would not be my first choice for my 25th anniversary. (We just celebrated our 22nd). Las Vegas is a great place, with so many terrific restaurants. Happy Anniversary!

I'll agree that switching from Paris to Venetian is a good idea. However, if it was my 25th anniversary and a first trip to Vegas, I'd probably go for a fountain-view room at the Bellagio.

As for a restaurant, Picasso at Bellagio has full view of the fountains and priceless works of art on the walls.

Otherwise, for romance, many people go for the restaurants with a view - top of the Stratosphere or Mix at Mandalay Bay. Unfortunately, the food usually doesn't match the view. I have heard good things about Alize at the Palms - great view and great food.

I'll third the suggestion to switch to the Venetian. Paris had nothing to offer me. Also, the 'basic' room at the Venetian is much much nicer than the first few classes of rooms at Paris.

For dinner with a view, I highly recommend the Voodoo Lounge and Cafe at the Rio (off-Strip, but it is any easy drive or cab ride). It is on the 51st floor and there is a 2 story patio with great view of the Strip. I'm not sure that it is romantic in and of itself, but I'm sure you could make it that way (it's all about who you are with, right?).

You are not going to find many dark old martini bars on the Strip. I have enjoyed the lounge at Onda (in the Mirage). Onda is a nice italian restaurant. The lounge area at the entrance is a nice place to sit relax, have a martini (or wine or scotch) and listen to the nighlty piano player.

If you do switch to the Venetian, you may want to consider one of these dining options:
Tao - a modern Asian Bistro with great food and service. The Kobe Beef Rolls (like sushi) are incredible. After dinner it becomes one of the hippest night clubs in Vegas.
Emeril Lagasse's Delmonico Steakhouse - a great steakhouse with a New Orlean's flair.

I assume by now you've decided on a hotel but I would also recommend The Venetian. The rooms are like junior suites with a large sitting area ( sofa, table and chairs and second television ). Also, they have large beautiful bathrooms. For dinner, have you checked out the Eiffel Tower? If you get a table near the window, you have a view of the Bellagio fountains and the food is wonderful. We also had a great meal at 808 ( can't remember which hotel that was in ). It is an asian/hawaiian restaurant. I had a 5 course tasting menu with matching wines by the glass. Nobu was fantastic but more "cool" than romantic.

Since it is your first time to Vegas and its your 25th anniversary, I would not spend it at the Venetian..
I would do the Bellagio or the Wynn..
New or newer is everything in Vegas and the V has large size rooms but they are showing there wear and somewhat dated...IMO..
For a romantic dinner, there are a myriad of great restaurants in LV..
Old school downtown would be Hugo's Cellar at the Four Queens..you can go to the top of the stratosphere for dinner too..
